I guess that would depend on Shazzy.
If he smells nothing, then obviously, since he's become accustom to his smell, he smells. He just can't smell it.
However, if he does smell something, it means his odour is so strong and pungent, that he even he can smell it, meaning he smells.
Either way, he smells.

So, if Shazzam smells in his room in the middle of nowhere, without anyone near to smell him, does he really smells? :0

Put an onion in the fridge, and after a while the smell will permeate everything else in the fridge. Put Azzy in a room, and mysteriously everything smells like camel excrement and sand instantly. Yet you say you don't smell. =O

Lotsa talking distracts people from the smell, y'see.
Since people are too stupid to multitask effectively, all they can do is listen (and if they're talented enough, breath). It's a rare case when someone's able to listen and smell at the same time. But that small group of people are extremely rare to come across, so talking as a distraction works most of the time.
