I spoke to him after his lecture. I asked him how he could justify a claim like that. I said, "wouldn't they notice that they no longer had trees on their island? Oh look it is the last tree lets cut it down?" I wasn't trying to be rude I just really hated him making such outlandish claims.

That seems to sound close to my understanding of what his work will be like. As I had heard he is an environmental evolutionist. That claim you raised does sound like something I too would find quite disagreeable.

Yea, I have issues with a lot of his claims. He claims that the people of Easter Island died out...

If you ever want to read a geologist point of view in regards to anthropological questions, pick up any book by Jerod Diamond.

After my time in England I am envious of their archeology program. They are envious of my school because of our multifield approach. However, I would rather go to a school where I am not forced to take courses out side of my discipline. I currently have to take up to Spanish three. The thing is I am moving to Japan and I will never use it.

GASP I just noticed what happens when I exceed 400 chars. It simply cuts off the rest of my message. I am clearly the most observational person of all time

While I can only speak for my university. It is largely taken from the social anthropology perspective at undergrad level. Although part of this does include some political anthropology, which is where I would love to go.
It does not overly surprise me if this is the case. As I have looked at the wide variety of Anthropology papers/subjects offered in U.S.A with some envy to say the le

In the U.S. they treat anthropology as a multidiscipline. You spend some of your time in your undergrad studying archeology, biological anth., cultural anth., etc.

Lol the sad thing about this difference between us, is your knowledge of Anthropology far exceeds my own. Yet I am the one who draws on the field so strongly in my arguments. Although as I have a particular interest and direct my assignments towards the effects of forced assimilation and ethnocide on peoples, this is not entirely unexpected. It only gets further enhanced as my other major is polit

The thing that I have to be careful about is taking an anthropological argument about every topic.

Yeah, I should possibly read more of his work when I get a chance. As I touched *very* briefly in my Anthro theory paper. There is also a classic NZ film directed by an Anthropologist which demonstrates structuralism called "The Piano".
Nice to see you back in the debates. Although I do worry how badly I butcher Anthropology in my posts O_o
