every 30 min, or bfore and after a battle, id have too many bad experiences with blackouts or battery loss @_@

uh, i'm not talking about saving on gba.I'm talking about saving on emulators such as vba. That means save states not saving from the menu.

I'm not sure whether or not I've already posted here but, my answer is:I don't use save states at all...It screws with normal game saves...so I don't.

I use the save state when It's "Boss Time" in a Game. And I also save when I'm near a save Point. It's just so I can skip the Intro of the game when I play the next time and go to where I ended up before. Just to save som Time. :)

Save states are individual .sgm files, so the .sav file will never be messed up.If that happened to you, you should consider switching from your current emulator to VisualBoyAdvance. In case you don't know, VisualBoyAdvance is the best GBA emulator, n also the most popular.

I usually use them when there is a fork in the road and I just want to take a peak at where each road takes me.

Save states are kind of cheap, but they make it a lot easier to quickly beat games. I played Rebelstar: Tactical Command on normal mode, and it was already really difficult. I found that where your people spray bullets isn't randomized, but dependent on position. So you can save state before you shoot and then keep selecting squares around enemies to shoot until your dude finally hits it.
