it would seem that fighting games have a higher 'addiction' value than RPG's based on this premise: a player will play through the varying play and story of an RPG because they anticipate what comes next, that is, they play because they are stimulated. A player will play through a fighting game's painfully repetitive game play and often weak story because they are mindlessly addicted. Why else would a player playing match after match of the same predictable AI losing to their human thought if not for mindless addiction brought about by the satisfaction of winning?

It has to be RPGs for me. Fighting games mostly lack storylines.

i like RPGs, they involve more thinking then just button mashing at your opponent.

not neccessary, sometimes some fighting games are better then RPGs as they have somewhat level of difficulty and totally awesome graphics like Rakion. But RPG games also also nice as they have a story line which makes people play on to try complete the quest and yeah both of them are nice >.<

No way Rpgs envelope you into the character's role and give you their strength and weakness and let you customize them the way you want pretty much you grow with the character

I never lost 200 hours (game time) of my life in a fighting game. They bore me way before that. But rpg's, I lost 200 hours (or more) just replaying FFVI.

Well both are addicting but sometimes the standard RPG is too boring. Oh no the boss is stronger than me, I better train for 3 hours to get up a level. While fighting games are good if there is another person who shares the same enthusiasm for the game

do first person shooters count as action games? because if they do...they are way more addictive than rpgs...my trigger finger seems to have orgasms by itself with each kill :D

I dont think fighters are more addicting than rpgs. IMO, Shooters are better/more addicting than rpgs. You need to be on top of your game in order to succeed in shooters. One mistake = death.

Fighting games IMO can be more addictive due to infinite replay value when you find someone else that likes the game as much as you and is around the same skill level. RPGs are great for a 1 run through single player.

I think it depends on the person, whether they are the kind who wants a quick fix or a story they can get into.

To me fighting game is not more addictive than RPG. RPG is my favourite genre. That said fighting gaes last alot longer since it's the type of game that's bet to pull out when friends are over or to challenge others in the arcade.

i believe rpg's are somewhat repetitive even thoughh i like playing them, some fighting games though actually take an amount of practice to b good at it.

Fighting games only really require you to learn the control layout and remember combos. RPGs so vary in type. Mass Effect is probably the best example of this, or Too Human. Compare those two games and you'll see that they vary more than fighting games really do.
