I do the tutorials and all that. I just screw around on Photoshop trying to find cool FX, but I'm not seeing very much improvment.

Just keep making things... try diffferent effects on all sorts of pictures... try making your own backgrounds not using gradients. Use rasterized layers on your text and differednt renders and styles. MAKE ALOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS. thats all i can say if u wanna get better.

Thats how I learned, tuts only helps after you got the basics. Start by messing around like spleen says and don't give up. If I improved from my first ugly sig to my current, you can do anything :o

I try many different things, filters, looking at other art, many things. I rarely use tuts though.

Join a GFX site. When you finish whatever you are making, post it up there and ask for CnC. They'll tell you what you did wrong, what you did right, and how to improve on it. It's arguably the best and fastest way to get good.

Take the tutorial - and then deviate from it. Thats what I used to do. I'd find some tutorial, take elements from it, then remember some other tut, take elements from it, and so on and so forth.

Hmm, so far i've only read 3 tuts and one face to face tut which helped me jump start my sigs. If you are getting no better with tuts, avoid them then, since i have difficulty following them (sigh, i have lack in co-ordination if that explains it), but yet, just for now, until you've learnt all the basic tools, then maybe try learning some general sig tuts to start you off, just keep trying

find a really ugly picture of someone and make them look good. The first couple times some things might look a bit fake, but it all comes with practice.

Practice makes perfect... Try making your own title screens for games you like, or try the album cover meme .
