depeneds on what you look for in a sequal. I like games that have little to do with the first one but still (barely) laces in the first one. as the core story. like Chrono Cross. at first when you play the game. you think the game has NOTHING to do with the first Chrono Trigger game. but towards the very end you start to realize that it has everything to do with the game and the games core story is based off the game and then it all ties in and it really makes the game more enjoyable. it's like you don't even realize you're playing the sequal till it's done. I like stories that twist at the end though.. like the movies fight club and Saw. I thought both movies sucked till I saw the ending with the twist. I like my sequals to be the same. wayFinal fantasy: none of the sequals have to do with the first one so it's a gamble. I also like games like golden sun 1 and 2. they were MEANT to be a single game like kill bill volume one and two were meant to be one movie. but it was split in half so they could make more money. :D it's brilliant but if you've only played golden sun and not the second chapter.. you really haven't completed it. you've only played half of it.

Nah, most of the time, I think, the sequels fail to capture the essense of the original, so while the original may be superb, the sequel often ends up like trash.Thank goodnes, though, that doesn't always apply.

Sometimes sequels are good and sometimes not so good.Golden sun the lost age was actually much better than the first one. On the other hand, super mario brothers gets worse and worse :D

Eesh... the problem here is that most sequels aren't planned out... They're just "ooh, we can extract more cash with this" most of the time... So yeah, creativity is drained on the first, leaving the programmers ploughing ahead whilst the designers are still tapping their pencils against the table.GS2 was a good sequel, namely because it really wasn't one - it was mare of a continuation of the same story, not an extra addition. All the Final Fantasies are not even related, so creativity can go wherever it takes. But for others...? Can't say the same.

other than the final fantasy series, i can't think of any sequals that i like better than the first one. i beat golden sun, but could never get into golden sun 2. i beat superstar saga, but haven't started partners in time. i almost beat ff1 on gba, but didn't start ff2. i just don't have the faith. and i really didn't like kingdom hearts: chain of memories

Yeah, and in some games, the game is just part of the plot, like Golden Sun.

It's really hard to say, cause somge sequels are great, other suck, cause the developers wanted to get fast cash and didn't do anything special. That's the problem with them, they're not very creative and are using the same old ideas.Answering to the poll, let's say that about 50% are good.

I voted not really, as most game sequels aren't as good as the originals. Though games like golden sun have great sequels.

Usually they suck on their own right or they are just watered down copies of the original without the creativity so in other words they suck.

Everybody is their own person so they like their organization a bit differently, therefore different people may like sequels compared to the first while others may dislike the sequel it also depends on if there was an honest effort to make it better like if a new battle system was developed or a different storyline (final fantasy)
