I say that half of the time they are, and I think it's disappointing if the sequel isn't as good or worse than the first game.
Are sequels as good?

It varies. In the X series, personally I thought X2 was not as a good as X1. However, in the case of the Super Mario Bros series (and because the U.S. SMB2 is just Doki Doki Panic with Mario) the 3rd one fits the example of a sequel that pwns.

I think it depends on the game series. Games that have many sequels like final fantasy or suikoden will have some good and some not so good as the game designers tweak the gameplay.

Well, i say it depends very much on if the producers was planning to launch sequels or not. Like with movies: Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings. Here the sequels were good because the story is split in parts, and the parts are not made if the last one was great. The disney movies: they try to create something new out from the old classics, who have already ended. That sucks ass!

Kingdom Hearts was pretty good the second time around. It made me happy to see a happy ending although I lost respect for sequels after the second Tales of Symphonia.

It depends on whether the story is complete or not with the first game/show. And whether or not the sequel will make things come full circle. My stand is that if the story has ended, they should not force a sequel, or it would just seem like a desperate attempt at money-milking. An example of this is Final Fantasy VII. As much I like most of the franchise, I can't help but wonder "so... when is this going to end?" every time something new comes out. It felt like developers are just trying too hard to come up with so many problems with the Final Fantasy VII world that ONLY Cloud and company can solve for some reason.

Some games like Warcraft have really good sequels. Other games like Call of Duty World at War are just jokes.

Sometimes. Terminator 2 was great. Ghostbusters 2 was alright. House 2 sucked. Give and take, depends on the sequel.

It depends on the series. For something like, Tales of Symphonia, the sequel was very bad. But other things tend to be better or worse. It all depends.

I hear bad things about some sequels, but Jak II was way better than the first one, so that puts me in the half and half category. There are some good and bad ones!

Idk, all of the Halo games were good. The Mortal Kombats (1-3 and Armageddon at least) were good. Oblivion was tons better than Morrowind. Idk, it all depends on the developers and how much time they are willing to put into it. The Original Super Smash Bros. (maybe Melee) was the best. Idk... It just depends.
