Personally I don't think it really matters because they both have the same function therefore I think you are free to use either and/or both

I personally use both options. Still I use savestates more often - they are faster (you don't have to go to menu and load your game), you can save everywhere and so.Still I think this is like cheating - for example Mega Man Battle Network series are a piece of cake with this (you can abuse save states so much you won't even get hit by Bass/Forte gun). Still I can handle it even without savestates (Mega Man Star Force series are a piece of cake and there are no savestates/snapshoots by now).Savestates are very convinient for places without any saveroom and just next to toe boss battles - thanks to that you don't have to go the whole maze again if you mess up fighting the boss (or you can cheat and use save states in battles to cause enemy miss, to cause you having critical hits etc.).I usually use traditional saves just for the final boss battle (to start it traditional way :D).

I'll have to admit, i got hooked on to save states at some point in time. When i started playing NDS games i'd find myself almost pressing the shift and control buttons to load and save state. I finally broke the habit but man was that scary.... still love save states more though. XD :D

Save states is when you use the emulator's save right? if so, that's all i use, i dont see it as cheating but as an advantage, i personally hate cheating on any game (besides gta 3, gta vc and gta SA) until you've beaten the game, i seen someone said that in game saving is faster, maybe it depends on the game but i really disagree lol, all you do is hit shift + F#, rather than going out of whatever menu to go to a save menu and do it there

save states. It's much more easy to save when you want and you can load it directly

I love the save state system. You can't lose! I hate losing. It does take some of the skill out of gaming in some games but I mostly play rpgs so it doesnt make much difference, if you can't beat something you just level up. In game saving annoys me sometimes, like in Harvest Moon Games.

I use save states too but I not proud of it I think myself that it is like cheating!!

I agree that it's cheating but that's why I love it!

The first emulator I had was a SNES emulator that claimed to let you have save states, but whenever I saved one it didn't work (the emulator said it was corrupted). So I just saved normally and that's what I've always done…

usually save states but some games need to reset to get certain(usually RARE)items. like in golden sun and some games have something special in the main menu(like mystery gift in pokemon firered) so i guess only in game saving WHEN NEEDED

I use a combination of both. Multiple save states are much more usefull, and as long as you aren't using a new or developing emulator, there shouldn't be any problems.

A combination of both, I mainly play FE games on my simulators so I'll use save states mid way or to prevent being critted easily. But after the level I use it on I will delete the state and save regularly, or I find it screws me up a couple levels if I get into a bind IE: I save a turn before my leader gets pwned and I can't stop it, and then I don't have reg saves so I have to go back 5 chapters.

I tend to use the in-game save only when it occurs to me that I havent saved it in awhile; other than that, I always use the save slots - greatest idea ever :P and atomicknight has the idea; you can stop partially through a level or a battle and be able to start exactly where you left off... cant do that with in-game saves

Yeah i agree, especially with boss fights at the end n i hav to go out no point in loosin evrithin, save state and boom back there again when i return

Whenever I use savestates in the middle of something, i find myself wishing i had saved at the beginning because i forget what was going on or something.Hence, I use in game almost entirely, although if I just watched a 10 minute video (usually not something on GBA but it does happen on occasion) then I'll savestate it right there and avoid the watching of the same video again.~Scy

Usually when I wanna play the game how it was intended I use save states, but if the game's save points are 30 minutes of play away, I just use states.
