It's usually on because music is part of the presentation of a game, and most games I've played have really good music to go with the game e.g. Golden Sun. The only times I turn it off is when I'm listening to other music.

Music and sound effects plays a huge part in drawing players into the world that producers made. So, i turn on the sound wherever I am playing a game.
