Lol, dont worry you still got a 4850 which is really good i think unless you use a big screen then you got pwnzUgh...I can't believe Diamond released HD 4870 1GB which, with after rebate, costs about the same as my HD 4870 512 MB...I...am...gonna go cry now.

If he has a bigger screen he would play games at higher res, the 4850 workers fine max'd on all/most games at lower res but when it gets higher the 4870 will be need, the double ram well also help with this along with the fact that its a better card.i wasnt just talking about normal use i was talking about games cause really and ture you would only get a good gfx card for games or maybe some high demand graphics progarm.A 4850 is still OK, granted. But how does a bigger screen screw the functionality of a graphics card? =\ A GPU simply generates the O/P and sends signals to the monitor, projecting which on the screen, regardless of how big it is, is the task of the mechanism within the monitor itself, right?Besides, he's got a 4870 already, not 4850... the VRAM is the only difference.

I never even use AA and rarely use anisotropic filtering... Anyway, I have a 17", I still do OK with 1024x768, so that's why I was asking. You must be used to playing at maxed res all the timeWhen you up the resolution of a game, you will also up the VRAM requirements. So, running Crysis at 1280x1024 will require less VRAM than say 1900. Because the GPU have to do more work to render the frame. And higher resolution means more pixels per frame. Hence, more work for the card. Also, using anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering also eats up VRAM. Triple buffering also eats up VRAM. What the GPU use VRAM for is just temporarily store data and access it when the monitor give the go. So, when doing the above tasks with little VRAM, some frames are gonna be dropped, hence the frame skip. When there are more than enough VRAM, the game will go smoother, because there's enough VRAM to store everything until the monitor is ready for the next frame.
