The most popluar globally in terms of sales is Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy. Anything Mario and Zelda related is also right up there. I myself enjoy all 4 of those series.

why does the heading say "most popular" yet the responses have all been "favorites?"anyway, the most popular is obviously the mario series. Mario appears in more games than any other nintendo character.

Kirby. The ability to bombard your enemies with an onslaught of bombs procurible from some netherspace behind your back is one of the funnest things I can remember doing as a kid. Not to mention, the weapons and powers. It's pretty much all about them. One of the funnest things, is running through with Fighter or Yoyo-power in SNES all stars, or with the Thunder staff in Crystal shards. I never really cared about the storylines (Which were almost all the same dam thing), I just enjoyed beatin' the crap outta stuff with my newfound powers.Although, if I had to guess the most popular, I would say Final Fantasy, since it's spawned well over 9 titles before Squaresoft was lost to Sony. If they had continued, Nintendo would have beaten Sony into the ground, as FF7 was pretty much the peg that set Sony apart so early in the race.Other than that, the most popular, despite my opinion, would be the mario games, because of their numerous different games of it. Not really a gamer's choice as much as LOZ was though...

For most popular, I would have to say it'd be Mario...after all, he's the company mascot! You could probably hold a picture of the guy in front of most random people on the streets and they'd be able to identify him.But for personal favorite...well, that's a tough call. It'd come down to Metroid and Zelda at the top of my list, with the only distinction between them being what my gaming mood would call for at the time. But in the end, my vote would have to go to Zelda, which has a far more involved storyline with plenty of beautiful locales and fun, well-developed characters to meet, and of course the complex, puzzle-ridden dungeons and wide variety of monsters to overcome. :D

Zelda, better graphics, storyline, and not as cartoony as Mario for those who hate the cartoonish games.

I think that the Zelda games are just so well made and even the ones that arn't that good are still miles above the competition. Mario is good, and is a fun way to pass the time but the Zelda games are just too engaging.

The most popular is Mario, there's no question about it. As for my favorite, I think it'd be the Mario series. I've always enjoyed their games, even some of the quirkier ones. Mario Kart is in my top 10 games of all time.

Legend of Zelda has to be it. I have to admit, many of the ones up there are still pretty good, but I'm an RPG addict who's been playing Legend of Zelda since 5 years old. Let me tell you, I couldn't figure out how to get anywhere in the first level until I picked up the game a few years later.
