Well personally for me it would be graphics.. but if there was an all of the above option id pick all those.. just saying for me.. if the graphics on a game were truly awesome id get lost in the actual game .

so? what's ur choice? i would go for storyline. no engaging storyline, no rpg.-edit- this is something like armageddonx's topic, but a bit more general and simplified.

I agree. the storyline makes the rpg. It is the reason why i am playing video games... and those sleepless nights trying to finish the game...

RPGs are becoming my favorite means of gaming, not because of fantastic graphics or great gameplay, but because of the stories that have been told thus far. My first RPG experience was that of Breath of Fire II, and as a kid, it definately wowed me. The last one I completed though, was Tales of Symphonia, and man, has this genre come a long way. Symphonia will always be my favorite, great characters, great plot, great everything.Chrono Trigger is a close second though.

I say gameplay, but Storyline's good too... hmmm... Well, I went with gameplay in the end becuase I like leveling up and crushing things with my now unholy might, but maybe that's just me again.

definately the battle system, if that sucks then there isnt much point playing unless the story is outstanding, as most of what you do involves battling enemies, if the system makes you cry you wont enjoy the game.

All of the poll's options make the RPG their best really for me. But, to choose one, I'd say the battle system. Because I love to train in every RPG I play, having a battle system which works, and I'm able to understand, is pretty essential! So Battle System gets my vote!

Well, what I love about an RPG...hell, what I love about ANY game, is the ability to create your own character. I hate being someone else, why can't I just be me?

I agree the storyline definitely drives the game but a good Battle System is also a factor.

The story line is the backbone of an RPG without it, it doesn't matter how glamorus the units look or the style of gameplay, it becomes all show and no soul without a storyline.
