The Storyline of course like pokemon, the game features and style and also the character.Sandbox after beating the games is the most important features to make the game addictable.

I think it just has to be a well rounded game and over something unique.

I say battle system and storyline. I normally like real-time battle systems used in the Tales of Series or Odin Sphere, but I've also been attracted to some strategic rpgs like Disgaea. For me, it's how the systems are presented to me that influences my decision in my "attraction to an rpg"Take Generation of Chaos for example. A game that could have been great (in my eyes), featuring complete customization, 30 vs. 30 real-time combat, even an amazing story, all hindered by the superfluosity of the complicated mess that is the player interface.

I'd say the temptation to explore the game world and customise my character.

I agree with Tazz-- in my own way. It's all about the breadth of possiblity and exploring the game (battle) system. Experimenting to see how far it will let you go one way or another, the best RPGs are the ones that allow for the most customization. If I have an RPG that will let me create a diversity of characters, some of which would die in one hit at a boss battle, or kill in one hit-- that's the kind I want to see. I want to see SOME strategy go into the character progression, instead of the standard formula of time spent playing=exp=better character.

I think that, like the votes show, story is paramount in an RPG. 2nd for me would be openness in whatever class system that is in place, with alot of options for how to play the game. 3rd for me would be unique characters that really grab ahold of the player and actually make them CARE about them.#1 RPG of all time: Final Fantasy VII

Storyline. There's just something in Rpg stories that other games can't achieve. Maybe it's because it's alway epic. In Rpg's you don't fight for your country, you fight for the world. It's never some crazy world leader with handful of nukes, but a freaking ancient god of death coming to set the world on fire and exterminate all life. Even if in the beginning the main villain seems to be a normal king, you can bet that you will be facing a cosmic horror in the end.

For me it's actually the characters.. I suppose that kinda goes with the storyline.. Buuuut if the story is amazing and the characters are (in my opinion) boring I'll probably stop playing. <.<

Out of all the choices, I would choose storyline. But more specifically, I would say that the most important factor would be the ability to connect with the target audience. Such a factor would include characters and interactivity, and to a certain extent, the battle system. I mean, if I really feel nothing for the RPG, due to one-dimensional characters or uninspiring plot, I'd probably just dump it to one side.

It's mostly the characters and the storyline. If I can't bring myself to care about the characters, the rpg just isn't as interesting.

The storyline for me. I was young when FF7 first came out and hooked me into RPGs with it's awesome story.

I'd say the Characters do it for me.Characters with good drive and plot/story are part of what attracts me to a game.Graphics are a nice luxury, but are not always essentail to me.Storyline and gameplay are some big things I look into when getting a new game.

For me it's the storyline. FF7 is still my favorite game to this day because of the story line, and some other reasons too... but yeah storyline.

I play for the storyline, but the characters matter too. Even if it's an SRPG, the first one I really liked was Fire Emblem. And it's still one of my favorite games.

A deep (Xeno) or fun (action rpg) battle system is what I look for in an RPGs. But Music, Storyline and gameplay are also very important. Replay value is just a big plus. The rest, I don't mind that much
