For me, the better the storyline, the better the game.

A good storyline and gameplay are imo the most important things an RPG must have.Everything else can be ok to "there's better", regarding battle system for example. So that's why I love Golden Sun even though the battle system is frustrating. Round based fighting is not what I really like

I chose soundtrack because honestly, that's what got me hooked on my first and favorite RPG (Ocarina of Time). A good RPG has the best music.

My top 3 things:1)Storyline-Doesn't matter what else a RPG has if it doesn't have a good story to pull you in.2)Gameplay-Great gameply means that you won't ne too busy fiddling with stuff more often than you're actually playing the game.3)Soundtrack-A good soundtrack can make a game even better. It makes moments so much more, and the music is usually awesome (Most FF stuff is still stuck in my head years after playing them)Those are my reasons for loving RPG's.

probably the gameplay. a RPG has to have a good idea with good characters, and plenty of detail and challenges

i would have to say graphics, although it isnt that important later on as i get deeper into the game, graphics are the first things i see. if the game looks like crap then i wouldnt rele wanna start playing it after that then its gameplay and story

It's not just one factor but all of them combined. If I have to make a priority in that list, I have to say storyline. (sucky storyline with fun battle system? It does not compute. Example: Grandia)

I would say, replayability and gameplay, a game with good, engaging gameplay is great! But when you add that level of replayability and have lots of side missions characters even, and bonuses, games become worth getting!

the thing that attracts me to rpg games is the storyline, which is why final fantasy 4,7,10, 10-2, and final fantasy 12 are my most favorite rpg games

All those elements are important, but gameplay is what does it for me the most. If it's fun, it automatically has replayability.

I like say they are all good but Storyline is what I first look at. There are games where all you do is fight and barely any stories. For example: Tales of the Abyss. THAT is a game worth playing. Though I am not sure it has replayability. Pokemon doesn't have a good storyline specially sence they aren't even the real story. Though it is good enough and has replayability. I sometimes start the game over just to play the start of the game again!
