Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES) was the one of the first RPGs I ever played that I can remember. I played it on an emulator but when I was younger I remember playing Super Mario RPG on our actual SNES. both excellent games. FFMQ is sort of a gimped Zelda/FF game (you collect new items that let you progress farther in the game from "dungeons" it also featured simplified FF style battle/elements/stats/etc.) which is pretty interesting and I've always wanted to see more games in the style. Mario RPG was like the precursor to the paper mario and mario & luigi games. If anything you can consider Paper Mario since the plot is similar (make friends, travel the world, save 7 stars, etc.) but Paper mario was very well executed and deserves the praise it gets as a stand alone game.

First one was Dragon Warrior for the NES. Then there was Destiny of An Emperor, Faxanadu, Pinball Quest, and (arguably) Zelda 2. which rounded out my earliest RPG(-ish) experiences.I didn't really 'get into' RPGs until I played Secret of Mana, though.

I was worse x_xI've been trying to play through FFVII & FFVIII ever since they first came out and I still haven't beaten them due to pure bad luck...First PS version for both then both stuffed up for some unknown reason, so I was stuck on the 1st disc for both...Then I borrowed PC version of FFVIII from a friend; just as I thought everything was all well and fine, got up to the cut-scene where Edea shoots a bolt of ice at Squall then game crashes... Same thing happened with FFVII, got to the point where Cloud's supposed to compete in the Chocobo race at Golden Saucer.Many years after, I tried to play it on my PSP using isos (but only bothered to play FFVII this time). Got to the cut-scene at the Ancient's Temple where Cloud's supposed to find out about Aeris's secret with Bugenhagen....Crashes again..... DX!!!

oh man that's some amazing bad luck there. Doesn't it make you just want to shake what ever you're playing it on wile screaming out why and crying... or maybe that was just the final boss of FF7. I still haven't been able to beat that darn game. Conversely the last boss of FF8 was extremely easy if you went in to it with the right party members... man The End was so cheep... I mean the move that finishes that fight in like five seconds not the actual ending to the game.now back on tropic I completely forgot about zelda 2 and if it counts as an rpg then that one might have been the first one I ever played.

My very first RPG was Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. Kind of like RPG training wheels if you ask me. Although if I really get technical, then my first RPG would be Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Hmm... Pokemon Yellow would technically be my first RPG. Final Fantasy VII is probably the one I played that got me really into RPG's though.

@Mr. Chya
How... Just how... could you not beat the last boss of FF7? Do you mean Sephiroth or the Weapons? I wasn't able to beat the weapons until I got older and become more strategic, but the last story boss (Safer Sephiroth) I beat with no problems on all my times beating the game as far as I can remember...

but the last story boss (Safer Sephiroth)

technically you can't lose this fight) It's a 1-hit KO) even if you won't attack and do nothing sephiroth will attack you and Cloud will counterattack therefore killing Sephiroth)

Pokemon FireRed, if Pokemon games count as RPGs.  If not, then probably Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Oh wow, that takes me back...

I think my first experience with an RPG game would be the demo of Final fantasy VIII? it was the one with the guy and his gunblade. Squall?

After that, I'm pretty sure the first one I ever completed would be Final Fantasy 10

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time  was my first RPG, followed closely by Super Mario. Both were on my Nintendo 64 *Curse you, game console thief! Someone stole it, along with my GBA and everything that went with them....*

Final fantasy IV, Even though wanted to play either Chrono Trigger or Final fantasy VI, by those times it was not as easy as now to get some decent emulator and ROM that played decently on that hardware, so it was the best that I could find by that time, and no regret, even when I hardly managed to understand what was happening on the screen I just grew fond on that series, such a nice game, undoubtedly.
