kefka, he played a major role throughout the game and went from being a suboordinate to being the man who ravaged the world and nearly destroyed a whole race of espers. kefka was almost a god too...

One-Winged Angel Sephiroth is the best boss I have ever beat. The creation is beautiful, the music is a marvel and his super attack is very long but impressive!

Yorien says:Well, I find many people here thinks that the best final boss is the "most difficult to kill" one... Maybe the topic author meant to ask that... or maybe there were deeper thoughts involved. If you ask about the "most difficult boss to kill", then most Final Fantasy endgame bosses can enter the contest, since they usually have that lamer I-Hit-All-your-party-For-nearly-all-Life-Points-then-since-you-already-issued-attack-command-five-minutes-ago-I-counter-afterwards-and kill-you attack.Next, I we ask about the "coolest" endgame boss, usually Sephiroth takes the lead here, Ganon (or Ganondorf, or whatever... all from the Zelda series) being a close match. If we ask about "we were waiting for this battle a veeeeery long time, you *~€%$?@#%!!!" bosses. Then we might talk about Lavos (Chrono Trigger), Ultimecia (Final Fantasy VIII), Isair and Madae (Icewind Dale II); Batlin and The Guardian (Ultima VII) Sarevok (Baldur's Gate II) and specially Jon "Mr Confetti" Irenicus (Baldur's Gate II). These are usually people that screw you too much in the game, so you're eagerly waiting to wipe their sorry arses all around the place when you finally meet them. But there are bosses that simply are "different". These are the bosses I like most. Usually ones that usually cannot be killed by "normal means" or ones you must battle in a "different" way. Three come to my mind:**** SPOILER WARNING ****(I explain the boss and the way(s) to kill him/her. If you plan playing the game, don't get past the boss name)........................1) Uukrul (Dark Heart of Uukrul). The bad boy itself can be battle killed normally... but the fact is that the fuc**** bastard reappears each time you kill it!!. What then?. You must first battle him normally, than you must continue exploring the dungeons till you can get his "Black Heart" (very well guarded, of course). Once you get the Heart, must battle him again and once in battle you must chose to "Use" his heart and shatter it in front of him... now you may (at least!!) kill him.2) Elaine 3 (Koudelka) Well, the fact is that this game has three diferent endings, depending on how you deal with this boss. You may kill her normally, you may LOSE the battle on purpose (and this one gives a GOOD ending) and finally you may beat her for the third ending if you got a special item (Pendant).3) Time Devourer (AKA Lavos) (Chrono Cross). Damn this one's probably the best one i fought ever. First, similar to Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross has ELEVEN (11) endings, depending on how and when you battle and defeat Time Devourer... but that's not all. TEN (10) of these endings are open to you when time is right... but for the eleventh one... well, that's another thing. You first need to get a special item called chrono Cross that can be equiped as a spell. Next you must battle Time Devourer after finishing all subquests and so. And finally you must use the Chrono Cross spell AFTER you perform a special spell "melody". I explain: once you get Chrono Cross, a "melody bar" appears once you enter battle with anybody. You can use six types of magic, each tied to and element (White [Holy], Black [Darkness], Red [Fire], Green [Earth/forest], Blue [Water] and Yellow [Lightning]). Each time you use an element, a note is sound. In the final battle the melody bar must be filled in this order: Yellow > Red > Green > Blue > Black > White and finally cast Chrono Cross. Take note that Time Devourer can cast spells on his own, and can disrupt/fill the melody bar same way as you.Yorien Dragonard

ooooo I could be here for a while All RPG bosses have a sort of 'sadness' about them, they are full of them selves in battle yet you know you are going to winthough Kefca is without a doupt the most enjoyable to kill though (and the funniest), Ultimecia was the most annoying (how long?!?!?!?!) and Final Sephiroth was a joke (seriously let him kill you and YOU win??!?!)

Fighting the Time Devourer(Lavos) at the end of Chrono Cross, because defeating him in the right way is by far one of the hardest things to do in an RPG game

I liked Luca Blight from Suikoden II, even thought it wasn't really the final battle. Just having to use three parties against him, and then a main character solo was good enough for me. XDHmm. I haven't beaten very many RPGs to have any further comments on this.

For me the best final boss in a RPG was definitively Dark Dream for Dragon Quest 6 for SNES.He was not only an optional boss but also much much harder than the actual final boss. XDBut the best thing is if you can kill him in a certain ammount of turns, if you do then you get one of the most creative endings you'll ever see... Its awesome.
