Lavos from Chorno Trigger made you fight his outer shell first which went through every boss in the game, then his inner core that included two variations of him, that is what made him a formidable foe.

I love Earthbound, I only just finished playing it on an emulator a few days ago for the 4th or 5th time. I also liked Smithy in Mario RPG, but that game is just interesting anyway.

Best final boss eh?=_= hmm....lets see if Srw counts i would have to say Seputagint from og1 and Stern Regisa from og2.and seeing as how i only made it to kefka and sephiroth maybe once or twice respectively i cant give a full on opinion except that safer sephiroth contradicts his own name, how exactly is blowing up a solar system safe =.= i mean seriously, kefka at least had taste and a funny laugh to step up his game plus i think he's like totally twisted and all that junk.

Sephiroth is the best final boss. He has 3 different forms which make it more interesting to fight him as a final boss.

I would say Seph, but he's super popular, so i'll, go with the underdog, Sin in FFX. the buildup and climax are worth experincing if u know what i mean

This is a tough one for me to decide lol. I think it's a close contest between The Light Emperor in FFII: Souls of Rebirth and Ultimecia in FFVIII. The Light Emperor because he's a tough cookie if you haven't trained your characters properly. The first time I fought him he obliterated my party with ease. And Ultimecia because of the fact that you can't choose your party when you fight her which makes the battle a lot more interesting, especially considering the fact that the only characters I bothered levelling up were Squall, Zell, Rinoa and Irvine lol. No offence to them but personally I think Quistis and Selphie just suck.

Bloody hell, this thread is about four years old and people are still saying Sephiroth. lol Let's see. Kefka...he's one evil bastard. Who honestly can forget him screaming, "HATE," at you over and over? I guess he didn't get hugged enough when he was a kid.Sephiroth, yeah, he's decent enough. He's like a tragic villain to me. He was cursed from the beginning...even before his birth. He was just an experiment to his father, Hojo, and then there's the whole Oedipus thing with Jenova. Everything he has been told was a lie and he was used constantly by people for political gains. Could you honestly blame him for going insane and wanting to destroy the world with a giant meteor? :(Ultimecia, now that's one mysterious boss. Why does she want to kom--I mean--compress time itself? Nobody knows. She just wants to. Maybe she has a secret. Maybe she was persecuted constantly by people without magical powers...because she was seen as evil and inhuman. Sorceresses were treated with respect for a while, and then at some point in history, that changed for the worse. Maybe Ultimecia is the last sorceress in her time and she's lonely because there's nobody else like her and her loneliness is further exacerbated by people vilifying her. Eventually, she got tired and wanted to be alone in the most ultimate way possible. People's hatred and fear of the different and unknown can certainly drive people to do the most extreme things.Breath of Fire 2's Deathevan, now that's one controversial boss. I'm surprised Capcom had the balls to slip that past the American public back then. I mean, basically, people were praying to a monotheistic god and going to church and all that crap. Then in the end, it turns out their beloved god is actually a demon, and he got stronger everytime people prayed to him. Plus, he was freakin' ugly as hell. Chrono Trigger's Lavos--now that's one entity that just refuses to die!Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne's Lucifer...that was just freaking awesome. You fight the Lord of Hell himself--the fallen angel, Beezlebub, Satan, whatever the name you know him as--for the right to his throne and the title as the Lord of Hell. Also, he was ridiculously hard to defeat, but hey, what do you expect from the head honcho of Hell?Smithy of Super Mario RPG. Santa Claus with a bad temper. Enough said. Paper Mario RPG's Bowser. You gotta admire him for not giving up on his quest to defeat Mario.Shadow Hearts: Covenant's Susano-O. It was just kinda heartbreaking to have to fight him, knowing he's your friend...but at the same time, you know you have to stop him from destroying the world. That's all I can think of right now. I honestly can't pick ONE "best final boss." They were all unique in their own ways...

Final boss of Final Fantasy IV, it's always fun to cast Meteo/Nuke over and over again until he dies.

id go with the final boss from skies of arcadia. great game, and great final battle, switching between the two totally different combat styles of hand to hand with the character and piloting the ship. still have yet to see another rpg nowadays match its diversity.

God - Shadow Hearts. It's God... if that doesn't make for an epic fight, nothing does.

I thought it was just an alien entity? Maybe I just need to replay Shadow Hearts. Not that it's a bad thing.

I'd say Nyx Avatar and Izanami no Okami from Persona 3 and 4 respectively.Nyx Avatar's not as badass as the other final bosses, but his whole Arcana speech during the battle was awesome"Beyond the beaten path lies the absolute end. It matters not who you are...Death awaits you."Izanami no Okami...

Lavos from Chrono Trigger. Lavos is a parasite that literally feeds off of the concept of human progress, not so much evil as a force of nature.

I personally like Dhaos from ToP, not to mention final boss of ToE (who's name escapes me)I also liked Lavos of CT. For his true form is what you would have not expected.
