I don't own a PSP yet, and basically the UMD movies are the main reason why. I've only played a friend's PSP and it's great for games, but the few times I've seen UMDs on them, I wasn't impressed.Mainly this problem: Most of the UMD movies being sold for the PSP in the west seem to be UMD versions of movies you'd find on DVD format anyway. And far as I know, most people would prefer to watch a movie either at the movies, or in a home theater. The PSP is small, and it's not the best quality for movies IMHO--especially considering how much you'd pay for the UMD video disc. Yes, it's portable--but there are portable DVD players, too. Some cost less than a PSP, and they accept existing DVDs as well as some CDs (PSPs can't).Now the reason I'm complaining is that some companies in Japan have gotten a bright idea with this. Bandai, for example, is selling some of it's anime strictly on UMD, like "The Wings of Rean". Now I'm not a big fan of the Dunbine series, but it makes sense. You want to watch an anime that's ONLY available on UMD? Get a PSP. Why isn't the same thing happening here? Maybe because we (in the west) still haven't gotten over the "Direct to Video = Suckage" mentality.Seriously, a PSP for the games, but not the movies. The reason I haven't bought a PSP is because EVERYONE is selling PSP packs with LOTS of UMD videos packed in, but no games. No thanks, I'll wait for PSPs to lower in price and get rid of the UMD video packs which I don;'t need.

I think psp umds are a great idea for the psp. I think it boosted up sales rate when people knew there were going to be movies.

As a game medium, the UMD is great. As a movie medium, it fails miserably. As pointed out already, most people can just get the DVD and rip it to their Memory Sticks. If they were cheaper then maybe they would be worth it. Instead, I think it would be a great idea if you can buy tv shows and movies of the net like you can with the iTunes Music Store and the ipod. TV shows are about $2, which I think is a great price. Just my opinions.

I don't really think it's worth it. I would rather get the DVD and bring my portable DVD player with me in the car.

I don't think it's worth it at all because you could just buy the dvd and rip/convert it to your hard drive :( then you could watch it on a plasma TV and your psp XD

Exactly my thoughts. I don't understand why anybody would actually buy the movie on UMD with this option pretty readily available, provided you have a decent sized memory stick. Combine this and the fact Sony was releasing the UMD's at 20 bucks a pop and you get the quick death of the UMD movie market.

The majority so far says it's a big waste of money. This I personally agree with. Why buy UMDs when you can rip them and get the same quality.

There not worth the money, unless they are bundle up with a game. Like, if you buy Spiderman, you also get the Spiderman movie. I doubt that will ever happen.

I don't know, I tried getting into the UMD movies, but I am just an old fashioned DVD kinda guy. I mean, it would be a good idea for those who are always on the go, or for watching better in-flight movies, but other than that, it seems as thought just buying a regular DVD or even a BlueRay is more worth the money than a UMD movie. But like i said, it really depends on your use for it.Home users - Better off getting a DVD player and a DVD movie.Travel users - Get the UMD movie, or better yet, subscribe to Gamefly and rent the movies instead.

I kind of have to agree...UMD for movies are kinda uselessI'm not gonna say stuff like go pirate things but look at it this way...if you buy a DVD you can watch it at home...convert it to MP4 and put it on your Memory Stickif you only have the UMD it's gonna take a lot more work

I wouldn't buy one because I rather just watch it on DVD. But due to lack of sales, lots of UMD movies have been dropping in price. So it may be a bargain for some who just want to watch movie and don't care about the screen size.

Yea...as much as I would like to agree with you, for some reason, I don't see pirating as an excuse to get a movie onto your PSP.Overall, It is not to say the idea is stupid, but it is just the idea that "i went and bought a $250 dollar PSP to watch UMD's on!" which would sound stupid given the fact that UMD movies are probably not even worth a bargain price.

the UMD movie format failed, at least outside of Japan, that is. most of the movies u get can already be gotten on a DVD, ripped, into Memory Stick.but here's an interesting fact: UMD movies are actually doing very well in Japan. reason: adult content, A.K.A pornography. a lot of these "Adult Theatre" comapanies are releasing their shows on UMD, exclusively. Sony earns.but honestly, i tihnk that if Sony wants to keep UMD movies alive out of Japan, they have to get some exclusive content for the format, or at least wait a couple of months til they release it on DVD.
