VI was definately the best no contest i liked how the team split up and you had to have certain guys for a scenario (Locke being able to go into a disguise)

I like FFVI for Terra's Theme (and it's verious remixes), but otherwise, I'm still a die-hard FFI fan.

As a whole, I enjoyed the entire series that I have been able to play. That being said, the most recent one was VII and in that window of seven games it is hard to pick a favorite, because each is fun for different reasons. But, From I to VI I chose V for the job system and one simple plot element: what happens when powers that are taken for granted are lost?

It's a serious push between IV and VI for me. IV was just incredibly rich and perhaps (and that's a big perhaps) had a better storyline, but VI has the better villain and gameplay.

I would say Final Fantasy VI. Awesome story line, very hard bosses, and great music.

VI. Kefka... is just plain awesome. He is somewhat like Sephiroth, except much better.

Final Fantasy IV is far and away the best of the first six. Best story in the series, best playable cast in the series, a competent badass villain, no god-forsaken paper dolls... Great soundtrack, beautiful colorful graphics. None of that ugly washed-out brownness that everything in FF6 had. Only reasonable complaint I could see anyone making would be that it's too linear and basic.

I've gotta say FF6...it's easily the best game I've ever played. You had an awesome plot that was unlike anything ever done before> There were two whole worlds to explore (a big deal back then). You had a fantastic villain in Kefka who is entertaining any time he makes an appearance and was the original "completely insane murderous villain with no regard for human life" that has been ripped off countless times since. I still find it amazing that Kefka who was just a 16-bit sprite had far more personality than fully CGI'd villains like Sephiroth and Kuja who came after him. Not to mention that almost every individual character had unique powers for you to chose and each had a good storyline (again, something new). Plus there were a number of sidequests and hidden characters which was also new. It really paved the way for what RPGs are today and I'm not sure if anyone has done it better yet.A close second is FF4. A good challenging game that is fun to play with good plot and creative villains and all that. It really expanded what RPGs could do. A classic game. Even funnier was how hard it was to find back then...you couldn't find it in stores at ALL. I actually bought it after I got FF6 and I ordered it by mail from Squaresoft themselves.Stevo

I like VI the best. It has the best story, and Kefka is probably the most hilarious old-school villain :). V has a good Job system, but the boss battles have to be easier..

I liked V the best for that reason.

I would have to say FF VI. It not only had one of the most Bad@$$ last bosses (I think that the final battle with kefka was the basis for the final battle with Sephiroth in FFVII. Fallen angel figure and awesome orchestra with choir-esque vocals. But then again I'm not saying this is a bad thing.) But it also had one of the best storys. Even though the whole evil empire thing was worn thin with the Star wars series, the character chemistry and deeper story within the story made this game one of the greatest games of all time.
