It has been recently stated that Microsoft plans to launch it's next console early, almost one year before it's competitors. Some say that the launch of "X-Box 2," or "Xenion" could come as early as November 2005.So my question is this, will the early launch destroy the "X-2's" chances for success. To me, it seems like it will. First, this will give the competition time to improve upon their own machines, making X-Box 2 the weakest in terms of power. This is exactly what happened to the Dreamcast.Second, just in case you didnt know, the "X-Box 2" isnt backwards compatible. This will REALLY hurt the market for the next system. It also lacks the harddrive of the original model, suppossedly to stop all the hacking that occured on the original X-Box.I'm sorry to say this, but the only reason the current X-Box is popular is because it can so easily be cracked. If you ask me, MS is about to make the BIGGEST mistake of it's life. They have already lost over 3 BILLION DOLLARS on the current system. They have not a single profit on either games or software. There are even MANY people inside of Microsoft who have expressed concerns over the future of the X-Box franchise. If you ask me X-Box 2 could be MS's last game console. What do you think?

X-Box has made a ****in huge donkey profit off X-Box, X-box games, and X-Box live and accessories.

Actually, M$ has lost close to 1.2 BILLION from the Xbox.. mainly due to the hard drive. They were losing.. I think around $15 or $20 on each Xbox sold.. and that was when it was $300.

If you ask my opinion on the original question, no I dont believe that this will be a killer. Even if the some of the essentials for Xbox are going to be taken away in the Xbox-2, although it is still all speculation, it wont be a killer. How tragic that we will now have to purchase games, and you dont know that Xbox-2 wont be down compatible. Even Microsoft itself probably doesnt know for sure if it will use regular or blu-ray disc reading technology. And it is my personal beliefe is that these topics are talked about too early, maybe we should wait until like mid '05. Because I dont know about you, but if I am wrong, I dont want to look like a total jackass, so I will remain out of the over-all debate.

well, two things could happen with xbox 2 coming out almost a year before any of it's competition.1. microsoft plays its cards right and makes xbox 2 a very desirable system, then it can saturate the market before the competition has the chance.2. they slip up, it's not powerful enough and don't make it desirable enough, then it's gonna go the way of the dreamcast.so as long as they make xbox 2 VERY powerful for it's time so it can compete with the revolution and the ps3, and make it so that xbox 2 is very desirable, then i dont' think an early release will kill the xbox 2. early release are always ment to saturate the market, so we'll see if ms can do it.

alright everyone needs to calm down... first off the hard drive wasn't the most of the xbox's concern by microsoft! the video card was! the makers of the video card would NOT lower their prices making xbox lose sales due to the other systems lower in prices. since xbox 2 will have a hard drive and its own video chip they will be able to be more flexible in the sale price. although they may have a smaller hard drive they may plan on having more space in the memory cards. xbox 2 will rule all!

Yeah, and Microsoft can go for a smaller HDD, the Xbox has what.. 9 gigs? NOBODY that I know has ever gotten less than 50000+ blocks of space free.. so I think they can go lower. Plus, 9 gig HDDs are cheaper now than they were in 2001.. so that makes the cost lower too.

This too is over a year old. Are you doing this because I yelled at you for not searching for the one about live (that was on the frong page already)? Early release could end like Dreamcast or like ps2 since both were released early (in a way) but I think it will be fine.

The early launch as far as i know, can only be a positive thing. When the 360 launches they will have more to to invest in the games..especially Halo3 which is supposed to put pressure on the PS3 launch

Just to put things into perspective.PS2 was the only company to make a profit off their Tier 2 systems. (Comparing PSX-N64 as First Tier). This may be incorrect but it is of some correctness.I do not believe and early launch will hurt X-Box. It allows people to shop earlier for X-Box, if people did not intend on buying it at A later date they will not buy it at an earlier date. And if someone intended to buy it at a later date they can still buy it then.Unless they are sold out then only the person loses not the company.

Actually you are wrong. Nintendo is the only one who made good profits this generation so Sony hasn't gone positive profit the whole time. Sony may have sold more than Nintendo in both gens, but Nintendo made more profit.*looks for TM24 to prove his point*

I think xbox will have the advantage because they can make a kill at Christmas time.. parents who dont know any better will buy whatever is best available. And younger kids arent thinking it through and waiting for whats next.. they want whats best now. And Xbox is doing alright, considering they're largely unsuccesful outside of north america. Sony has a better grip on the asian market.. I dunno much about europe or australia though.

I think that Xbox 360 will be ok if the games are great and the other systems do not add something better to their systems.PS3 will have blu ray so that is a plus for PS3.The main battle will be between Xbox 360 and PS3. I am not sure which one will be the winner. We will see as soon as both systems are out in the market.
