I would have to say lite, but if you play gba games it sticks out the bottom and its kind of annoying.

I was also torn between two similar deals, but I took the Lite. The Lite is a lot nicer to look at, and SOME people think that the hinges are stronger than on the Phat, but there's really little difference after that. Do you really need adjustable lighting, for example?Based on your two choices, I would go with the Lite combo, however. Get New Super Mario Bros. It's a great game that's easily liked, and a lot better than Partners in Time (the story is actually nonexistent in both of them, but Partners in Time is a freaking RPG!). I don't really know much about the Pokepak thing though.Bottom line: You'll probably regret not getting the Lite, so get it now.

DS Lite, it's lighter brighter, the stylus is in an easy place to reach, and the power switch is better than a button.

the light really is better. the screen is brighter, the feel is more comfortable, the stylus is easier to use, and it is less easy to randomly hit the power button.

I usually choose by whichever one is cheaper. Sure, getting the newer one will make you look "cool", but with the extra cash you saved by getting the cheap one, you can buy more games.

the old DS is so ugly and chunky. the smarter choice would be the DS lite

The DS Lite is the better machine in my opinion. It's lighter (haha, get it?) fits better into pockets and has many upgrade fetures over its predecessor. It's got adjustable screen brightness so if you are indoors you can have it really low and play with a longer battery life. If you are outside, you can change the brightness all the way up so you can actually see the screen. :) The stylus is longer and thicker, so it is easier to hold and it comes in much more colors. Plus, over at Amazon, it's cheaper. How can you go wrong?

Did anyone here trade in their old DS for the DS Lite? There was a deal going on with EB Games where when you traded in your DS for a DS Lite, the Lite's price was dropped down to $90 and I didn't jump on it then. Now I'm wondering if it's still worth it to trade in for the newer model, provided, my current DS (original) is in very good/working condition. I suppose the results would vary upon the store I went to (which EB Games, that its) but can anyone share their experience with me or give me tips for trading up?

Well, on one side you've got a DS lite, which is smaller, had a brighter screen, a more sensitive touch screen an a thicker pen, but really starts to hurt your fingers after one, one and a half hour, and on the other side the original DS, which has a GBA port that doesn't makes the cartridge stick out one centimeter, a more robust setting, a better size for big hands and as a negative side you break the pen when you apply a bit of pressure. I don't know, but the Lite is way better in taking hits, because it's just a square, not a square with a bulb on top of it.
