I didn't break a PS2 at all. I had the same PS2 for 2 years and only brought it to Sony to fix the controller slot

I've had mine since it first came out, the big bulky one, and it still works fine and plays DVDs.

I have a 1st gen PS2 and have never had to fix it. I do some routine maintenance every couple months (clean dust out and use a lens cleaner disc to clean the laser lens). I read some things a while back about how playing DVDs on the PS2 would cause the system to break down much faster than just playing games. Does anyone know if this is true or has anyone experienced this problem?

I'm still on my first console, but I'm on my second controller. The first one shorted out and was shocking me. Dumb thing finally completely shorted out.

I got my PS2 the spring after release, I haven't had much of a problem with it until the last year or so, newer games will take me to the browser first and it will lag for about 15 seconds before loading the game. Older games, doesn't seem to matter if it's in CD or DVD format (FFX vs. VF4), don't have this lag.I also finally wore out my included black controller, but I mostly use a Logitech wireless controller anyway.I am somewhat amazed at my luck though, everyone I know who has a PS2 has had theirs break down and they had to get another one.

I'm still on the same one that I've had since June of 2005. It's a slim model that I bought at a pawn shop. I'll be needing a replacement for it soon, though, since there's a short internally with the power.

Our first ps2 is starting to die after a few years of gameplay, dunno if we'll pick up a new one yet.

Playstation 2's do intend to break in a certain amount of time. My playstation is about 4-5 years old and the things I had to get repaired was: The Laser and the Controller Port housing. The controller port, I only had to get repaired once, and the Laser, I had to get that repaired about 3 times because the original Playstation 2 Lasers are poor quality. Oh and also I got a better fan installed, so I can play longer without the Playstation burning out. The guy that repaired my Laser asked me if I wanted him to install a faster CPU inside the Playstation. He said that he would do it for free. My Playstation 2 has been successfully working for about 1 year since the last repair. I'll never intend to buy another one. I would rather repair the one that I have than to go out and buy a new one. :)

let's see my cousin gave me 1, and me and my dad gutted it to find out why the fan gets clogged all of the time. So far thats 1. We had two other crappy ones which were then burned in an electrical fire. I just got another one (yes i did after all of that, i gotta have my MGS!!) so right now im on No. 4!
