I like that browsers exist for portable devices, such as the DS and the PSP, but having small web apps is much more useful. There's a very well-written app for the DS called DSAIM that allows you to use the touch screen to talk on AIM. If you're unhappy with the DS web browser, but are interested in a way to talk on AIM, search google for it and download it.

I don't find it too slow with the 32mb ram expansion from the m3lite but it's definitely not meant as a substitute as web browsing on a laptop. The best use of the DS browser is for a quick look up on random facts of information on wikipedia, google, or look up words on dictionary.com. It's much more inconspicuous than a laptop so you could use it to "cheat" on in-class quizzes for example.

Has anyone mentioned Gnirfleo and Okiwi? I'm not sure how fast these will be, and what hardware you need specifically, but Gnirfleo will be released on the 24th of March, and Okiwi will be released soon.

You need the Memory Expansion Pack to run the Browser, so you have to buy it, not just use the rom. I suggest the European version because it is in English. I got it, and it is slow and can't play flash, but worth the money I think, since I don't have a laptop.

It's rather pointless in my opinion. I'd use a PC for browsing over a DS any day.

if you have both a slot 1 flash cart and a slot 2 flash cart then download the rom hack, (the hack only works for M3 and Supercard), other then that you cant, the only flash cart so far that has addressed this problem officially is ez flash, and they made it only for their flash cart, im sure someone will release a homebrew browser one day.

the works like this, example, you have a M3 simply and a M3 lite. You put the DS opera browser rom on your M3 simply, you then put the hack onto your M3 lite, then you load your M3 simply it then sees your M3 lite as the ram expansion and it works.M3 DS simplyPosted Image+Posted Image+Triforce Hack:Triforce have done the unimaginable, and have hacked the Nintendo DS browser ROM to utilise the M3 Adapter or Supercard's internal RAM in place of the official Nintendo RAM expansion pak. Please note that the hack still requires the Opera browser to be run from a Slot-1 device. 2 BDF patches are included in the .zip, one for either the M3 or SC. EXE files have been removed from the .zip for security reasons, you need the bspatch utility.

God some of these posts are utter rubbish...I saw it working a while back and it seemed good, worth having..I've run it on my R4 and of course without the expansion pack it doesn't work, so my question is:What is the cheapest or best way of getting it working - could I buy the official expansion cheap seperately? If not whats my best option?

God some of these posts are utter rubbish...

I just chalk it up as an unavoidable consequence of the download point system. The RAM expansion is currently not sold separately. You must either buy the official browser pack, or have the slot-1 & slot-2 w/ram combo. The slot-2 device must have at least 10MB of RAM, or Opera will crash during use.The cheapest solution is likely to buy the official pack. Currently there are European, Japanese and Australian versions available. A US release is slated for June. The European version contains the usual five languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian and German. Before anyone asks: The US actually has terrible internet and wireless coverage compared to most developed countries, which is why it was such a low priority for a DS browser even though the country is usually Nintendo's 2nd stop for new stuff. However if the idea of playing GBA games or running homebrew that can take advantage of RAM (eg: DSLinux) appeals to you, it may be worth it to invest in an M3 or Supercard ram-based slot-2 device.
