Metal Gear, ive played SC once and i didnt like it. In Metal Gear you dont need fancy equipment to sneak. All you need is brains.

Splint Cell, baby! It's a lot better than MGS. The storyline is more realistic, the controls are easier, but best of all, there's a PC version of Splinter Cell and it's more fun to be able to play on the computer rather than in my stuffy old room on the PS2.

They are both very great games, I cant pick between the two. I would have to say that if metal gear had the light and shadow thing, it would be better than splinter cell.

Metal Gear for the challenging boss fights- you'll know what I mean when battling The End in MGS3. =)

I heard all the hype about Metal Gear but didn't get to play one until Silicon Knights finally remade it for the GC. It was a complete let down. For a game that is hyped as being an interactive movie, the story was totally lame. It basically boiled down to fighting somebody, getting a piece of information from them as they die, and repeat. I much prefer Splinter Cell, with a more realistic story and more enjoyable gameplay.

unfortunately for me, i have never experienced the metal gear franchise. I must say however that splinter cell is the best out there and would be interested in someone trying to prove me wrong.

I vote Splinter Cell over Metal Gear and this is coming from someone whose played Metal Gear Solid and loved it, still do. But, the Metal Gear series is filled with poor acting, bad and overly strange storylines, but better action. Splinter Cell has great voice acting, top notch storylines and as for the action, it's not made to be an action game, it's a stealth game.

You shouldn't even bother with Twin Snakes IMO. The original was better and Metal Gear Solid 2 beats out all of them. And the plot is the key point of the game. I think that MGS 2 had a better plot though. Play it. It's sick. And you can't beat out those cardboard boxes!
