photoshop question

I was wondering if its possible to make 2 pictures look fused, like say...a cat with a dog, ive tried to cut and crop it using the various tools, but i still need help, btw i am using photoshop CS. will someone please tell me if its possible, and if so, how? thanks in advance!

Open the two images.Select the magenetic lasso tool and select out the dog from image one.Drag it to image 2 near the cat,it should form a new layer there.Right click on layer,blending options,drop shadow to make it look like its been in the picture from before.If you're using 3d pictures,you may even try a bevel and emboss.----Or,if its a plaing picture of a dog,with no bg (ie a monocolor bg like black or white and nothing else) (ie,a render) then simply click on the empty black space with the magic wand tool,right click,select inverse and then simply drag and drop it to the cat.
