His essence was trapped in a sceptre by the seven sages with Empyrea's help. But when Dhoulmagus released the sceptre from the magical circle in Trodain, Rhapthorne possessed him. In order to free his soul and return to power, Rhapthorne makes Dhoulmagus murder each one of the sages' heirs to break the seal on the sceptre. Once Dhoulmagus took out four of the heirs, he was cornered by the heroes and defeated. After possessing Sir Leopold, Rhapthorne kills two more heirs.
