A few of my friends use the wavedash technique when i fight them.I can wavedash but i dont use it in battle because it seems rather useless and unnecessay.Just a simple question here, how many people bother with those types of moves?

What is the wavedash?I just bash buttons. And try and smash them off the screen.

If you get to know the ins n outs of wavedash, your game could improve dramitically. An essential skill

I agree with LyraDestiny... I'm a button masher and that's how I like to keep it. Plain and simple.

Then you obviously suck at the game since button mashing gets you nowhere except the losing end

i use wavedash but not all the time, its hard to use it fluently but it comes in useful, meh i also use counter, by putting my L/R shield at the right time to cancel their attack without draining the shield, i tend to use aerial attacks more though =/ sheik as an awesome forward aerial attack and a pretty descent upper aerial attack

I usually rack up a couple of 5 hit combos with Mario/Falco/Pikachu or Kirby and thengrab or place a well timed smash attack at the opponent, thus resulting in them flying off the screen in a number of tantalising directions.Thievingmexican: don't diss button mashers, they are like pros, but just not fancy.

Huh? Do you know what a button masher is? It's impossible to button mash in SSBM and be good at all. And the top tier players aren't fancy, they just kick donkey. You're defense is stupid too, it's like saying don't diss crappy players, they're just like pros, but suckBUtton mashers are the lowest form of players out there in fighting games, right below scrubs

yeah, i tend to use a half button mashing, half well planned strategy in ssbm. it works for the most part. it wins most battles, those that it doesn't are 3 on 1's

L cancel is another good technique. It allows you to pull off more moves quicker if you hit L right before you hit the ground from fallling or completeing another move that delay of sorts isn't present. I don't know if this helped but there are FAQs that can explain it better than I.

I barely use wave dash.. im move of a shield roll or a jump dodging guy. Wave dash is 6/10 for me... jumping or shield roll all the way XD.

Wavedash helps for dodging. Example, someone tries to SHFFL (Short hop, fast fall, l cancel). The only thing quick enough to get out of that (in my experience) is to wavedash. Like if I'm Sheik and I'm fighting a marth, my wavedash is quick enough to dodge his l cancel.I usually only wavedash and dash dance to create confusion. I mostly SHFFL or if I use Fox, waveshine (when you wave dash then press down+b really quickly). Those kind of techniques are used for speed and mindgames mostly.

Waveshining is critical for any good FOx player out there. It's what makes him so freaking great

I don't need to know any of that wave dashing nonsense because I'm not playing with "top tier" players.

Wavedash is useful, but for characters like link in praticular, the technique you need most is L-stop. Press L (or R) right as you land in order to remove the recoverytime from the use of his down attack. this allows for a more agressive fight near the ground, as you can afford to use down A in the heat of the moment.

Shorthop and L-cancel are the most useful moves to learn. Wavedashing isn't the most important, it's easiest to do with Luigi.

I use wavedash a lot, especially against people that grab a lot.

What exactly is it? I've done it one time, then forgot :)... wavedash is like jump and then immediately air dodge or something right?

Actaully, it's easier to see with Luigi, not do with Luigi. Luigi drifts when moving, so you see when you do right
