In my opinion characters like Luigi and Fox get so much better with wavedash. Wavedash is useful mainly to move faster, dodge in an easier way, and in some cases, mindgames.

Yeah I used wavedash a lot when I played SSBM. Trust me...mastering that skill has its rewards.

I don't usually use Advanced Techniques when playing with friends because none of my buddies can match up to my skill and it would be boring and unfun to obliterate them everytime. However, when I go against somebody I have never played before and they're claiming they are the total shit, I'll just go all out to humbly slam them back into their place.For me, ATs are mostly fun and I lvoe bamboozling my friends by using them.

It's really not that hard. Just jump and the moment you leave the ground, immediately press the L-button and down/right (or left). You're essentially dodging into the ground. But if you do it straight down, the ground absorbs the impact and if you do it sideways, well, you're just dodging sideways. But when you go into the ground at an angle, the ground doesn't absorb the impact, so the momentum has to go somewhere, creating a wavedash! Basic physics really... :)

since i am probably considered an amateur, i dont bother with the wavedash or trying to learn it. I wouldn't be able to do it for the life of me anyways. So even if it 'dramatically' improves your game, nobody who is really just there to play the game for fun with you is going to like you after you use a super hard technique, such as wavedash, to kill them a bajillion times. End of story.

With better timing you can learn how to reflect projectiles with your regular shield.

I joined the Smash community in 2002 so I've known about advanced techniques for a very long time. Now they're a natural part of my play. I don't ever really think about l-canceling or wavedashing or short hopping; they're just things I do.

I don't know what a wavedash is but i think I know what youre talking about. I like to use Luigi's Meteorsmash (is that what it was called?) and Kirby Kamikaze (suck someone in, jump off, release 'em, float back up.) btw BUTTON MASHING IS FOR LOSERS

wavedashing leads to waveshining, which leads to SHFFL combos with fox and falco. These kinds of tech skills are really important for solid play at high levels of competition.

What is the wavedash?I just bash buttons. And try and smash them off the screen.

Haha, that is EXACTLY how I play any Smash Bros game as well! :D

WaveDash and all of the other techniques will indefinitely help you improve your game due to its ability to add more mindgame to your level of playing skill.

Lemme try and describe the benefits of wavedashing.First, a definition. Wavedashing is jumping, and immediately air dodging diagonally into the ground to allow your character to slide a certain distance, while still being in his or her standing animation. the distance that you slide is different from character to character. Luigi's is the longest, Marth, Ice Climbers, and Samus are characters whose wavedashes are pretty long, off the top of my head.First of all, with Samus, it's plain as day why you need to wavedash. Your roll is so slow, you need a better method of moving around. Wavedashing is a good answer.Say you're at the right place for Marth to tipper smash you, and you understand this fact. By simply wavedashing back, Marth's smash will whiff, and hit air. Then, you can wavedash back forward twice, and hit him with your forward smash while he's trapped in his lag frames.This is the concept of spacing. You want to keep at the very edge of your opponent's attack range, and using wavedashes to move around is a very efficient way of keeping the right distance to your opponent.Also, for characters like Ice Climbers, wavedashing makes you move much faster than you would normally while dashing. This is also true of Luigi.

Thats a good description of wavedashing. I play Samus and rolling with her is just a bad idea. In addition to Wavedashing, wavelanding (instead of jumping and air dodging downward, you are up in the air and as you come down you air dodge down left or down right.) is also really useful off platforms and doing missile cancels just makes Samus a really fun character to play. Also for those who know how to wavedash but never find a good use for it. Wavedashing off the edge allows you to grab on to edge which is faster way of edge hogging compare to jumping backwards.

I'm also a Samus main struggling against the harsh matchups of the Norcal area.These days, almost everyone seems to have a Falcon... or a Sheik... or a Marth...It's pretty much impossible to be competitive in those matchups without wavedashing.You need to be able to space well, and you just can't without wavedashing.
