The PS2 laser is kinda weak, so I don't see the point in thrashing it byu playing DVDs when a cheap DVD player does as well or better. Plus it's much easier to get a region-free DVD player!

I never use my ps2 for the dvd function. I prefer using a dvd player. The main reason is the noise. Actually my ps2 is a little too old now and the ventilator does too much noise, which is annoying.

I use my ps2 more mainly cause Im to lazy to hook my dvd player up. Unless a DVD-R wont play I use ps2 the most. I actually use it as a DVD more than game system since I only have DDR, Nightmare Before Christmas Oogies Revenge, and Soulcalibur 3.

I'm slightly confused at the question..Do you mean to ask us if we use only the PS2 part of our console or only the DVD part of it?Or do you mean which would we prefer, an actual PS2 or simply a DVD player?I'll answer both for giggles: My PS2 thus far is used for two functions, as a DVD player and also as a DDR machine. So I'd say more that it's a DVD player to me than a console. But if it's the second part you mean to ask us; obviously a playsation 2 because it has both components of the console and the DVD player inside of it.

You really should avoid using the PS2 as a DVD Player if you can manage it. This adds extra wear & tear to the laser and will mean those dreaded 'disc read error' messages will come all the sooner. Maybe that doesn't fuss you but think about it.....EDIT - I'll go ahead and expand a little on the wear & tear idea. The DVD is streamed so the laser is continually reading from the disc, this causes more wear & tear than most games, because much of the data is loaded into memory and after that it doesn't need to read the disc continually. Well except to re-load data, stream music (if it's streamed, i'd say more likely it isn't than it is, in most cases) etc.
