i feel its kinda sad. nowadays, game producer only concer themselves with graphic in gaming. in the nintendo/sega days, the graphic was limited, but the gameplay and story was excellent. nowadays, they can practically draw and make polygon to be exacly alive, but the story/gameplay is soo bad that i always lost intrest halfway through the game.... even my younger bro already has a waning intrest in current games (ps2/xbox/ect) and for me, i turn to translation, or replay old classic games. what about you?

Hmm, I sort of have this itchy feeling that this topic has been made before. I just can't seem to be sure so I'll leave this topic open. You are partly right about the graphics. The graphics itself cannot cover up a bad game but it does help to make it more pleasing to the eye. I for one would probably not be able to tolerate in playing a game if the graphics are too simple or is just horrendous in general. However, the graphics do not have to be really good to satisfy me. If they are enough to keep my eye from being bored, then the game will do if it also has nice gameplay. As for stories, developers nowadays are pretty much running out of ideas. Most good ideas have been used so they are sometimes forced to reuse them, causing you to feel that the story is not so good.

True, true. Y'know, good games are like good people. It's what's on the inside that counts, but good looks never make it worse B) :P :D

look at legend of dragoon (so it's not a classic classic. sue me) that did not have the greatest graphics (anyone who has played know what i'm talking about) i mean xenogears had better graphics (at least to me) and it came out 2 years earlier.LoD's graphics suck. we got that acrossHOWEVER, the gameplay and storyline in that game was amazing. the additions battle system: genius. and it's practically based on dragons, so it has to be good. sony's first RPG is my favorite.in closing: screw graphics. the characters could be stick figures, background drawn by a 3 year old, and be animated by your local drunk. if that game has a good story line, i'll play that game for a long time

developers running out of ideas? not really,..... its just they dont bother with gameplay and story anymore, and pump everything they have with graphics!! look at "Drakengard" it has decent story, good graphic and..... repetitive gameplay. if they have put skills/magic, it will be an excellent game. but all we get is a repetitive combo, and 1 magic button.FF X, great graphic, but the story is enough to bore me half way. no intresting twist/plot.... even FF VI is waaaay more intresting than that.i can list many other games but i shall stop before i made a page full. besides, the anime in japan is blooming, why cant they just "hire" a mangaka to write for them?

All that matters is the gameplay and storyline. The graphics are just the icing on the cake...As for me, I dont really get excellent graphics anyways. I have a relatively old graphics card, so most PC games are of average video quality. I've seen Halo on PC and what it could be with a top of the line nVidia graphics card, but nah, I was perfectly fine with loving Halo with average graphics...

i agree in the fact that thats all that game creaters care about these days but i dont agree that it makes it a good game...i mean look at the 4 .hacks... they dont have the greatest graphics, but they're really great games

Good graphics are not really needed to make good games. Sure its nice and all but i rather enjoy a game with good gameplay and story then a game with only good graphics.

I care more about gameplay and storyline, than graphics.FFX was good at the gameplay atleast and the storyline could've been better.Graphics were great.Anyway, today's games are pretty good and I like the oldies too.

As long as the graphics are at NES level or better, I don't really care about how they look. So if they're really bad then I probably won't feel like getting deeper into the game.

concidering that it takes years to make some of the newer games, I think that the first thing that should be under the scope is the player controls, then the storyline, then the graphics.

I don't really go after the graphics, it's great though if the game has it. Only storyline, gameplay and such matter to me.

Gameplay and storylines have to come first, at least the playability like DGEmu's rpg, not much to look at and even less of a storyline but I quite like it. Graphics are most definitely a plus but not entirely necessary.

Animal Crossing. The graphics were of N64 quality. Did people who played it cared. Nope. Gameplay made that game. The game was like crack. I spent 3 hours just to catch a stupid fish.

Often gameplay comes first (wrath unleashed has horrible everything but the gameplay is good, graphics not bad either) 2nd comes the storyline because lots of people enjoy a well developed storyline thats interesting (ninja gaiden/halo both are great..... morrowind is developed like crazy) but graphics matter in a different way, when i play a game and the graphics are incredible i sit there for like 5-10 minutes just playing around with the kickass graphics so they matter and at the same time they dont...... but i would say they are definitely great for the game and couldnt hurt.

The graphics dont make the game! FF9 has kinda bad graphics but its pretty good. Doom 3 had pretty good graphics but a review said it sucked.

yeah.. thats what i have been saying, and we all agree... but isnt it sad that i feel nowadays most game deeloper only seem to care only about graphic?..... i want games with complex story and good gameplay! something addictive.. not something good to look at and be bored after a while.

Thats right.I was playing FF10 and the graphics were great, but I didnt quite get the storyline so I ended up bored so I quit immediately.
