i dont think that the graphics alone make the game good. I think that various factors like background music, plot, and setting all contribute in makeing the game good.

I completely agree. I pretty much stick to nintendo, SNES and sometimes my gameboy. They're classics, and most of the games are just great ideas. Today's games are just so unoriginal and repetitive :/ graphices are nice and all, but they bore me.

Good Graphics always help but it's the gameplay and story that make it a game. My favorite games are all old ones. I just don't like 2d games that much though

Like most of the others have said, graphics does not make a game great. My favorite games are NES and SNES games. Sure, the graphics weren't much, and the only game that used polygon graphics was starfox, but it didn't matter. They were great games, that took a long time to play through. While today's games you can beat in a week or so. It's like we've traded quality games for quality graphics. The only exception being FF8. In it's day, it had decent graphics, *especially* the cut scenes, and it took me a while to run it into the ground. And another playstation classic is Final Fantasy Tactics. It had snes graphics, but it was an awesome game.

i feel its kinda sad. nowadays, game producer only concer themselves with graphic in gaming. in the nintendo/sega days, the graphic was limited, but the gameplay and story was excellent. nowadays, they can practically draw and make polygon to be exacly alive, but the story/gameplay is soo bad that i always lost intrest halfway through the game.... even my younger bro already has a waning intrest in current games (ps2/xbox/ect) and for me, i turn to translation, or replay old classic games. what about you?

i agree

I don't think that good graphics makes better games. As a lot of good games don't rely on graphics (well what I consider good anyway).

Good graphics can contribute to create a better game. But graphics isn't the only thing that matters, there are music, sound, gameplay, and storyline(especially for rpgs).

I think it's necessary for a good game to have both good graphics and a great plot. Take for example the DBZ games. I'm a huge fan of the DBZ tenkaichi because I personally think the gameplay and graphics rock. But honestly, who wants to play a game with graphics that suck?

I don't think so. Graphics don't make the game. Chrono Trigger's graphics was incredible at these days, but Chrono Trigger is now famous because of its wonderful stroyline and interactivity in an virtual word with time... and so we can say of lotsa of games of the "new era"... look at Katamari, an famous game with very addictive fun, originality, extremely good japanese music... and Lego-type people at it, as crappy graphs too. But still, was famous at the Japan, and it has got an new game, the "We Love Katamari".This is what I think...SEE YA!!!

Nothing beats the good ol' NES/SNES games... which is why they are continually ported...

the "old school" games are better, they have bad grafics but more great histories. For my are only a few exeptions: zelda ocarine of time, MGS3, god of war, ffVII

A game with great graphics doesn't have to mean that the game is great, but the graphics have a big part of the game. I don't like the graphics for Zelda Wind waker, but it goes nice with the gameplay and that is what makes the game great.

yeah, the gameplay and the game graphics are two totally different things. just because a game looks good doesn't mean that it will play good. if the controls are clunky and lag, the game is repetitious, and it takes aboout two to three hours to beat, what does it matter if the flames look real or not?

^ Agree. A good game with bad graphics is tolerable. A bad game with graphics doesn't make you want to play.
