Graphics never bothered me.ever.I had no problem playing FFVII along side X-2, cause I play games for the story. ... on that hand, the stories of both those games arnt the BEST, but...A good game with good graphics is always a great treat (Baten Kaitos series, for example). I just picked up a ROM of Metroid. Hard game, GOOD game, and the graphics might be bad (well, in amodern eye) but its still a good game. I grew up with the SNES. My first game was Super Mario World (Though I had played the orginal Mario Bros a long time before hand).Sure, I like it when a game LOOKS nice, but I like it when a game is good better.

I don't. It's the gameplay & structure first that gets the gamers to keep on playing. Graphics only help enhanced the game into looking better as well as supporting the gameplay, that's what I think.

I agree with the original post. A good game is made in gameplay rather than just good graphics. I also find myself going back and playing old classeic games that relly dont have that good of graphics but unforgettable gameplay.

I would have to say that a good graphic makes the game better, but it doesn't make the game. I would go with the old school anyday.

QFT. The best game I've played recently is Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. The graphics really aren't that amazing, but it's still a great game. I look at a lot of games now and see stuff thats all graphics and no depth, and it makes me sad >=(. I miss games like Ocarina of Time and such, which have good (for the time) graphics, but the graphics are only there to supplement a good plot-line. I'd take a good plot-line and detailed characters over graphics any day.

I unfortunately have to agree with you on this one. The level of detail in many games now is stunning, but so much attention is paid to that that they lose focus in the gameplay itself and the stories. I'd MUCH rather take worse graphics in exchange for a better game.

While good graphics play a big part in a game (I mean come on who wants to get a game that looks really crappy) it isn't the only thing that makes a game good. A game needs a good story, easy-to-use controls, and very developed and well made characters. In order to get the perfect game you need to have good balance of all those things including graphics, if yu do this it will be a magnificent game :gs:

Graphics certainly don't make the game. You can have the best damn looking game, but have a shoddy storyline or poor gameplay, it's not worth all the work that the developer put into it. I agree that nowadays people have been putting more focus into the aesthetics of a game than anything else, but there's still a few gems out there.

Nah, especially in wrestling games...I'm sick of story modes and flashy graphics..I just want a top ten contenders and random people sneaking in wins. My favorite game of all time was mdickies wreslting encore for the pc. The graphics are blocky and poor but the gameplay and knowing that the same people won't win everytime carries it.

I agree. I think basing a game just on graphics and a weak storyline is bad...it's very common throughout the old games. Can be said the same thing about online games too......Take Runescape for example :gs:

I hate to say it, but I've almost conformed to this standard in some ways. I used to enjoy ps1 games and stuff, but now the choppy graphics bother me. I prefer the little sprites from SNES games to the choppy square 3d graphics. It sucks because I can't stand to play the RPGS I used to love anymore like Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy 7-9. I'm trying to play Xenogears, but I'm having the same problem.Although, the storylines are definitely better in the older games with crappy graphics. I don't understand how companies come to think that some of the stories they are releasing are good. I suppose they know that the graphics will sell it. So really, it might be our fault for buying them anyway.

having been a gamer for many years i think graphics are only part of what makes a good game think back to old 8 bit machines or even the arcades space invaders had rubbish graphics but still people piled money into them because they were addictive for the game not the graphics.

I think that addictive gameplay will always be the most important element of a good game but with how intricate graphics have become they really do help to immerse you in the game nowadays

of course! games with lousy graphics tires the players eyes...who would want to play a game where u cant see the small details clearly?(for example the old versions of the yugioh games ... but now its actually quite nice!!)

In any case Gameplay always comes at a first place. There are many classic games which we all like and some even have decent to funny or good graphics but none matches the detail of todays games. But after that i personally think Graphics does come at a second place, since you're watching to it the whole time its just very important.

This aspect of gaming sometimes applies, A great graphic game means a great game. Sometime only, I've played some games that has good graphic or flawed. And some games I find it awkward, mainly from some DS games, If you think DS games has good graphics
