Graphics dont bother me as much as gameplay, I STILL play FF7 and i think FF8 BLOWS although its graphics are still considerably better.Good graphic games with empty story lines are kinda like the movie FF7:AC because I was just expecting ALOT more from that and it really disapointed me from what I've seen.

"Good graphic games with empty story lines are kinda like the movie"Perfectly said.

The graphics certainly contribute to a game's quality, but "=" is definately wrong. Some of the best games that I've ever played are on the classic SNES, such as FF6, Chrono Trigger, Star Ocean, Seiken Densetsu 3, etc...in addition, games with far outdated graphics, like FF7 are far better than just about anything I've seen today, since the plot is just so mind-blowingly good that nothing will ever live up to it, even with vastly superior graphics.

Graphics do play an important role in gaming, afterall would you play that had 1975 N64 graphics over something like Need for Speed? However there are many other aspects of the game. depending on what games you like and what kind of game it is, the game could be good or bad. If it was an rpg, storyline and gameplay are much more important than graphics, (the only exception i would make are text rpgs) for example Final Fantasy 7, blocky graphics, everything polygonal, and yet most loved finaly fantasy game, it got 2 place in best storyline for game awards, next to Zelda, Orcarine of time. Now if it was a racing game or shooter game, graphics would definately matter, probably the most important other than ingame details(upgrades & stuff)

I think that the game has to look appealing, and lot's of old games do for me. I find the grpahics for Banjo-Kazooie more appealing than many newer games.. I dunno if that made uch sense, but that's just my opinion.

Well not really, though it does help. I mean, rpg games do not really need extremely good graphics, and even now i tend to go back and play classic games that dont have decent graphics at all.

Like most people already said, Graphics are part of the equation but not what should be focused on. However, I think most of us don't realize the work conditions these developers are put under. Every 5 or so years a new generation of systems comes out. Sometimes it takes 4 years to produce a high quality game. 4 years... Think about that. These companies barely have time to adapt to the new technology and a new generation of graphics and systems are already on their way out, forcing developers to focus all their efforts on the graphics regardless. That's the problem, the fathers of the industry. It's Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft that force the developers to focus their efforts and money on the graphics. Graphics are what sell the game. No one will buy a game for the PS3 that looks like complete crap. Or if it looks like something that should be on the PS2. Developers are pushed and pushed until there is no more room in the budget for anything else but the graphics. If N, S, and M would just back off with the new consoles and let the game technology sit for a decade maybe Game developers could catch up and prosper once again. Technology is moving too fast and too furious at this point and it's ruining the industry by bankrupting developers.Blah. Sorry for the rant. But when you roll back and look at the larger picture, it's not the developers fault that graphics have become the primary focus of games. It's become enforced thanks to the breed of new technology and software. To make sales a make has to look pretty. You see it everyday. When a game doesn't quite look as good as it should, all the top gaming and review websites point it out as a critical flaw. That the graphics are suffering or not up to snuff. So of course what else can developers do or think?Pretty soon not even Capcom or Square will be able to stay alive at the rate things are going.

If a game is good, it shouldn't matter if the graphics are any good. But, I do like when a game has really stunning graphics. But the game can't be all just flashy and no depth.

The graphics add to the game experience, but not having them do not subtract from them. Now in this time and day the children are raised on better graphics and crappy storylines and thate because they talk act and dress just like the people in the games, not like in the old days where chilvary was actually alive, but thats another subject. But the graphics dont make the game nessisarily a good game.

I agree with the view that graphics contribute a large amount to the enjoyment of the game. I mean just look at the GTA series had the same formula in 2D but when it went 3D its popularity just skyrocketed!

Good graphics always equals bad games these days. There are exceptions but it just wouldn't cut it to list them here considering they haven't been released yet and it still remains to see if they are any good.

Good graphics does not equate to good game. If we are just after graphix, we would buy a movie or something. Good gameplay = good game, now that's true. Look at Pacman, tectris, snake, memory, pong, Insainaquarium... Those game could not be said to have great graphics but they are loved by millions...

Graphics are sometimes a setback on PC games, as some low-end computers cannot then play the game. *cough*FEAR*cough*However, good graphics normally make a game a lot more exciting to play on consoles. Gameplay comes first though, i still prefer Sonic the Hedgehog over burnout revenge.

True, but for only a few games. Not all good graphic games have a good storyline/gameplay.Can't remember the names but I've played many such games and most of the good graphic ones had a total crap soryline/gameplay.

King Kong. That game had brilliant graphics, and wasn't really that good, especially on DS and GBA.

No. Good graphics do not equal good game. Example, FFTA had bad graphics, but the gameplay was superb. Ogre Battle games had crappy graphics, but the games themself are kick-donkey.

Graphics is a must-have, but is not what decides the game. A game can be made much more enjoyable through good graphics/cinematics. They can express emotion in a character's face to give them more diversity.

i'd rather have good gameplay and crappy graphics than the other way around, need a good story or it's just not worth it for me

I don't think graphics has anything to do with how good the game is.

The phrase, Beauty is only Skin Deep comes to mind, though I suppose we aren't talking about people. Regardless, there are plenty of counter-examples of good games not being all that pretty, like retro games. But then again, at the time, those _were_ good graphics. Interesting... my mind is wandering. I'll get back to you on this one.

DRIV3r...This game has major production value, good graphics, and big name stars in the game...And It TOTALLY BLOWS...so like the saying goes sometimes the best things dont always come in the prettiest wrapping...Super Mario bros 3,Little Nemo, and Ninja Gaiden by todays standards would prob not appeal to the eye but are some of the most solidly fun games ever made.
