I for one dont think better graphics make better games, they just inhance the gaming experirience, take for an example, the FF series, FFVII is a great game, wonderful story and fun minigames, but now look at FFX, great game, but its not a better game than FFVII, to most people that is, but the expeirience of playing the game is better because its way more realistic

That is the kind of crap that makes me angry. Good graphics NEVER equate to a great game. That's why I still play Goleneye. Halo would still be good even if it ran on the Super Mario 64 graphics engine. All that matters is the playability and entertainment/replay value; in other words, a good game has to be fun. After all, entertainment value is the reason why we play video games in the first place. For example, Enter the Matrix had better graphics than GTA: San Andreas. San Andreas was actually better because it was more FUN. It's ok for games to have such good graphics that'll make your eyes bleed, but entertainment always comes first.

It makes me quite mad when people are all about graphics, its not what counts and anyone who says it is what counts on here isnt a true gamer, because true gamers understand that there is more to a game than the graphics

I'm kind of both ways. I really like games that are visually pleasing, they're fun to play in their own way. But games for older systems, which arguably focused on gameplay a lot more than current ones, are of course great to play too. I think that there are still a few games today that have both in mind, and those are the real gems to buy and support the developer to make more. The sad part is, the general population DOES care about graphics more than gameplay, and they're the ones giving most of the money. So that's why there is this tendancy to cater towards them, its all about the big bucks now!

gameplay is more important than grafics. whats the use to have the best looking game even when its actualy boring to play it. to have a good game you need a good gameplay and grafics that fit the standars of the time. grafics always evolve. so to have a game people will remember you need a good gameplay. the best exemple is FF7. to many people me included its one of the best game ever. but graficly... its horrible today. if a game that come out has grafics that are normal for the time then people will play and will see how the game is. grafics make people play a game. gameplay will make them replay and remember the game years after the grafics are considered ugly

As much as graphics are important in more modern gaming, it does not make a game great. It adds to the general feeling of the game and is a detail that can make the game great, but you have nothing if there's no backstory. The story makes the games, graphics and sound simply add to the game's great or not-so-great rating.

Doesn't have to be, but a game that looks good, sometimes makes it that you you want to play....just to so what's more to see

I think good graphics are an essential part of a good game. I honestly find I never want to play a game with bad graphics.

Good graphics doesn't mean good game... the good graphic simply create a better environment for the game... I remember some old games that doesn't have the best graphic platform but they are really good

I'd rather play Final Fantasy VII than some of the newer FFs, and the graphics are horrible in comparison. So good graphics != good game.

star ocean 2 only had really good FMVs, but there were only like 3-4 of them, but the gameplay blew me away. and at the age of 12, when the best game series you've played is final fantasy ( i love final fantasy with all my heart, but Star ocean 2 kicked it's butt off of a 20 story window) besides FMvs, you had 2d characters,, non rotating camera environments, and so many glitches that it make morrowind look like heaven, but the gameplay , oh the gameplay! interactive character storyline, original plot, amazing storyline, item creation, contests of item creation skills, romances that you can manipulate, greatest optional dungeon of all time (except for maybe the seraphic gate from valkyrie profile). yeah, screw the f-ing graphics. and look at ff7, i know it's been said, but the graphics weren't great, but for 8 years, it was the topselling playstation game that beat out Ps2 games! starocean 3, is only a former shell of what it used to be, so all you out there, don't put the star ocean series to rest if you didn't like 3, play two, and be addicted.

Great graphics do add a certain niftyness to a game of course, it's what it's there for but then again it's not a real must in a game. I prefer any good text rpg with good content and story than WoW.

Graphics do not make a good game. You can make a game as flashy looking like but without a solid gameplay engine it is worthless. Most of my favourite games that I go back to again and again are really quite old and look rather poor by comparison.

i feel its kinda sad. nowadays, game producer only concer themselves with graphic in gaming. in the nintendo/sega days, the graphic was limited, but the gameplay and story was excellent. nowadays, they can practically draw and make polygon to be exacly alive, but the story/gameplay is soo bad that i always lost intrest halfway through the game.... even my younger bro already has a waning intrest in current games (ps2/xbox/ect) and for me, i turn to translation, or replay old classic games. what about you?

i completely agree. This is why i like roms, you can play the older games, because they, in my opinion, are way better then the games now a days. Unless you are talking abouit sports games.. then omg graphics all the way!
