Graphics are meaningless to me personally. I could play with stick figures as long as the gameplay is great.

not true, sure it makes them better if there good, but to get a good game, it needs a story line, and some good side quests. god of war for example had pretty good graphics. but you are never free to do side quests. so it wasnt that great of a game.

Definitely not. I prefer a game with fantastic storylines versus a game with great graphics but has a poor story.

Good graphics don't mean the game is good to me. Like you said, in the Sega/Nintendo days, games rocked the most.

Good game's one you have fun with playing and don't mind playing again. If graphics'd equal that, we'd all be able to just watch slideshows, now wouldn't we?

I say the hell with that. It sucks that nowadays I hear my friends talk off things like "naw, XBOX is better cuz it's got better graphics lolz." Makes me sick. And everybody that's said "look at the old console games, average graphics, great gaming." that's how I feel about it mayn. Everybody seems to forget that, and the reason I think it's ironic is because everybody that's complaining about graphics that aren't over the top making a game bad are the same people that were kids during the old console days when graphics didn't matter.I mean look at the fact that young kids nowadays aren't exactly looking at graphics or caring really, they just want to play a fun game, that's how we used to be and the fact that anybody would grow up into whining about graphics is just nonsense.

You're completely correct znights. A good example is Counter-Strike: Source. They upgraded the graphics in the game to add more atmosphere, but failed to work on the faulty hitboxes, and bugs which come to the game. Why do game developers care more about graphics then gameplay? I'm sure there HAS to be one gaming-developing company out there that is like us and understands this problem and focues on equally balancing graphics and gameplay. Maybe it is because the boss of the developers is naive and thinks that graphics will attract more customers?

There is nothing wrong with having good graphics, as long as thats not the major premise of the game. Take for example doom 3....all I ever heard about it before is launch was how impressive the graphics looked and I kep thinking to myself, but what about the gameplay? what makes it differnt from any other shooter out there other than the graphics? and look what happened...game play turned out to be the same old stuff we're accustomed to.I like that fact that nintendo is making the revolution with a twist...while PS# and Xbox 360 are focusing on how realistic the games look, they bring forth nothing new with the games, its kinda like changing the body of a car and leaving all the internals the same...sure it looks impressive....but there is nothing new to be found on the inside. Nintendo seems to be forward thinking in that they are trying to do somehing different (odd balled too I'll admit) but I'm excited about gaming again. In summary...Good graphics is noth a bad thing, just make sure you make the game good first then beef up the graphics.

Yeah original versions rule. But answering the main question - not always good graphics make a good game. For exemple Black - graphic really good, but the game as whole not as good as I thought it would be.

Idd. And look at Diablo II for example. Crappy graphics but very good gameplay. (At least, its my opinion)

I think that the graphics have to be alright to look at at least. If the graphics are alright and the storyline is excellent, I'd definetly play the game. Oh but the gameplay has to be good too. There's too many contributing factors to enjoying a game. For an RPG fan like me, storyline would have to be the most important, graphics probably comes next and then gameplay. Music doesn't bother me... but if it's good then thats just heaps better.
