...if you're trying to compare Battlenetworks to the traditional Megaman style, its pretty clear already; BN's a disgrace. Command Mission wasn't very good either...

...if you're trying to compare Battlenetworks to the traditional Megaman style, its pretty clear already; BN's a disgrace. Command Mission wasn't very good either...That was asinine. This whole topic is foolish. There is no way to compare RM genres like BN and ZX.Now, it would make sense to compare X to Zero to ZX, I think, because they are more closely related than to the earlier games. I might go so far as to say you could compare them to RM8 or R&F, but that is stretching it.

...its pretty obvious I was comparing the quality of the games in general...in the same way, this topic is sensible as its asking more of the posters preference between MM games in the action genre or RPG genre. Correct we cannot compare sidescrollers and RPGs based purely on their content, but we can compare the total entertainment value, and I was simply commenting that the BN series fails there.

Megaman is not rpg is action based. It depends on which on which version your talking about though. BBN was rpg but the original was action.

It doesn't really either way, to me. Sure, the Classic RockMan was a side-scroller, but that doesn't mean it's restricted to just that; heck, just take Final Fantasy as an example. Games like FF8 and FF9 are much different from games like FFT and FFTA, yet they all seem to work out, no? >_>Personally, I prefer both. They're equally fun.</EXE fan>

To be honest, I can't say. They are wholly different gameplay experiences, for different types of gamers and different play styles. For my own part, I love the Zero series more than any other.Unlike Mega Man (the original) Zero has a real storyline and each game has a plot. I have been looking for RTRZ lately because of this very fact. Plus, I enjoy the merged genre that Mega Man was taken to by Zero, and I often think of the Zero games in the same vein as Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. They are products of a merged genre of gaming. They are the newer, purer breed of games, taking the simple sidescrolling fun and making it more than a simple "beat-em-up", though there is that element and someone not looking for more than that finds it with ease. But to a hardcore gamer, there's an RPG element as well. Between the chip system, EX Skills, Forms, and Bodies (not to mention the star system for the weapons and the acquirement of weaponry throughout the game), the hardcore gamer sees the beginnings of an RPG that take Mega Man Zero from being just another sidescroller with a ranking system and make it a true diamond in the rough. RockMan.EXE/MegaMan Battle Network, however, is only for harder-core gamers, like former Pokemon fans (from back when it was cool!). When you start MMBN, you know you're in for the long haul. The game starts and you're part Sherlock Holmes, part Han Solo. You can't just play for a little while, finish a stage and go on with your life. It takes time, random battling, and side quests...LOTS AND LOTS of both. It's not a game for the entry-level gamer, no matter what it might say. MMBN is the Final Fantasy of Mega Man. It takes someone who already knows what they're doing to play it. Plus, you really have to know Boktai to get the later ones and the Japanese ones.So it's a matter of what kind of a game you're looking for, and it's only personal opinion.

Megaman RPG is better it takes skills going around moving from panel to panel feeling the air rush through your hair (:P) Of course figuring out the chips may be kinda hard...

It's a wonder that you would want to compare them. you really can't compare two different genres like that. It's really hard because when they were made they were made with different purposes. There's a reason why they release both kinds still. You can compare inside each series but not across each.
