It lasted 116 years, which begs the question as to why it was named the Hundred Years War if it lasted longer than a hundred years.

The parties involved during the 100 Years War were numerous. England, France and what are now its present day provinces (such as Brittany), parts of present day Spain, what was formerly known as Flanders, Scotland, etc.

On the retreat from Russia, I believe that it was the river in which Napoleon attempted to ford even after the primary bridge that was previously there was destroyed. A makeshift bridge was created and the Grand Army attempted to cross in mass. However, harrassing Russians and failure of the French/allied forces to defend the bridge caused a great stampede in which many were trampled to death or froze in the river.
