I'm guessing you already know but you can normally buy screen protectors for both DSL and DS. A DS is probably the cheeper investment and seems more sturdy. I have a NDL and it's lasting me alright though I haven't tried to kill it. My cousin's had his DS for a while and it's been dropped several times, played like there's no tomorrow and still mamages to keep together. I'm not sure if I trust my DSL with that sort of beating...

I have a DS, I've had it since it came out over in the UK, and I've never had the slightest problem with my buttons.

I really kill video game controller buttons. I want to know if the DS Lite has more durable control pad/face buttons than the original DS. For example, the GBA buttons had more "give" than the SP did. Does the DSL have more "give" than the DS? Also, is there anything I can buy that can preserve the touch screen? Thanks.

I think that the DSL's L and R buttons are dodgy... but the DSL's light is WAY better than the DS's

dont think either of them are more and less responsive than each other.according to the hardware specs they are both made out of the same material underneath, and both support the same ammount of pressure, so i guess the durability would be the same. However the original DS doesn't have particulalry durable buttons, ive had mine just over a year now and it feels weird when i play crash

Actually, I have to disagree with whoever says DSL's have durable buttons. I've had my NDS for 2 years, and I havent had the slightest problem. On the contrary, my friend in England says his DSL's buttons (L, R, and Y) are already busted. He's only had it for a few months. Whoever 's DS' buttons are breaking, their probobaly smashing the buttons like idiots =/

I think the original ds buttons are more durable. My cousins have the ds lite, and I have the ds. I've had mine for 4 years now, and they've had theirs for less then a year, and I'm more of a gamer then they are, and my buttons are more intact then theirs.

I prefer the original DS, just because every time I hold a DSL in my hands, I can't help but feel the tiny little thing is going to completely shatter, and then I'll owe whoever owns it a new DSL, and there's a chance that one will shatter next time I touch it the wrong way, too. XDI feel the same way with those really tiny iPods, but that's off topic. >_>

I find the overall design of the DSL as more robust than the original DS with the one exeption of the start and select buttons.
