This game looks sweet. I played a little of the Jap version even though I don't know how to read. I can't wait until its out in the US.

I hope that this game will be good. I've heard that FF12 on the ps2 wasn't that good.

So I bought the game used from my local Tsutaya shop. And what did I discover? It's a tactics game in disguise! Why didn't it just say, FFXII: Tactics or whatever? I felt betrayed instantly, because the cartridge itself didn't clearly mention that fact. From the pictures, there was no display of the tactics aspect.Anyway, I thought the game was pure garbage, hardly worth the time to play, so I sold it back to the same place I bought it and relieved myself of that excess trash. Anyone else dislike the game?Oh, and I didn't just dislike it because it's tactics. There was also the mediocre music, the mediocre storyline, and the horribly small characters and graphics that made it difficult to tell what the heck was going on at any one point. In addition to all that, they had to include a long and boring tutorial (and they tried to make it part of the storyline, which was pathetic). battles aren't fun because you just point your characters to the bad guys and watch the ensuing carnage. Don't I actually get to play the game? I guess not. Didn't like it.

I thought I should clarify my comments a little. If you like tactical RPGs, FFXII: Reverent Wings is OK. The reason I was so horribly disappointed is because it had Square's name on it (oh, excuse me, "SquareEnix"). That and the fact that it wasn't labeled "tactics." I personally hate tactical RPGs in general, so it takes a serious special something to make me like it. In FFXIIRW's case, there is nothing very special here. The lack of control over what's going on during the battles makes it seem like you aren't even necessary. For several battles, I left my characters fighting, set the DS down, and came back several minutes later. It's really just too darn easy as long as you keep your levels up. It has a "mission" system. The screen pauses and flashes "Mission [whatever]" across the screen. Then, you're stuck wherever you are for a while playing that "mission." It really hampers any sense of freedom in the game. The music is nothing to write home about. In fact, it's just plain mediocre. And that's the problem. Square is not known for mediocre. If we wanted mediocre, we went for Enix (they were always producing "ok" RPGs). We go to Square for the really good stuff. FFXIIRW is clearly a product from the "Enix" side of "SquareEnix" (I'm only making a joke here, not referring to any programmers or teams). I think the increase in the gaming market, as well as the huge increase in the acceptance and fanbase of RPGs has lead Square to be a little lax in their quality. They know that as long as it's just "ok" and has their label on it, it'll sell. That's unfortunate. Square's fanbase should be careful and smart enough to say "yuck!" to the garbage and "yes!" to the good stuff. I think it all started with FFXII, which was clearly a product of the times and not of pure quality. The lame pre-rendered backgrounds that you were never sure where you could and couldn't go were just lame attempts to take "full advantage" of the hardware they had available to them. Same thing happens with some DS games, where programmers try to force the use of the stylus into some games where it clearly isn't necessary (or even good), all just to "take advantage" of all the features they have in the hardware they are using. If you don't need a stylus to play the game, don't try to force it into it! Goodness, after all, the comptetitor's handheld doesn't even feature a touch screen at all, and it's doing just fine (well, sort of). I highly, highly discourage anyone but the biggest of tactics fans to avoid this title. If you just loved Final Fantasy Tactics, then give this a try. You'll be disappointed with the lack of involvement you have with the battles (read: none), but it's a tactics RPG nonetheless. Hated it. Maybe you won't. Just my opinion.

According to Amazon.com, it comes out on Nov. 21. I'm seeing some mixed opinions, so I will wait until more people have played this game. Since it's one of the more expensive DS games, don't want to waste my money on something I will regret later.

No problem :weep: Works just fine on no$gba and using the mouse as a stylus works well for this particular game (unlike Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow and Zelda Phantom Hourglass whereby using the mouse is hard as hell to play).Anyhow, I don't know about this one. Having a point and click action RPG in a final fantasy game just doesn't seem right to me. I guess I'm too much of a traditionalist in this particular case wanting the same old turned based (or semi real-time) battle system I've grown accustomed to since FF1. You just attack and then sit and wait while your characters wittle down the enemy's HP while someone in the back heals you. Hey! Wait a sec, this is starting to sound like a RTS game. You even select and command units like such. Never expected I'd see that in a final fantasy game. Reminds me a lot of Warcraft III to be perfectly honest. One thing I do have to say I liked a lot is the music which was just beautiful. The intro is probably one of the best versions of the main final fantasy theme I've ever heard (enhanced further by my sound card's EAX capabilities). Perhaps some day I'll give this a more detailed playthrough

I thought the opening scene was fantastic. Some of the best graphics I've ever seen on a DS. And that's saying something since I've got quite a few CG cutscene games. Although I must say that out of all of my games, the ones with the best graphics are practically all made by Square-Enix.
