When given the choice between playing the Japanese release and the U.S. release, I always choose the former. Why? Because Japanese is my native tongue. There is also no worry of bad translations in Japanese releases, since there aren't any translations done.

i usually pick up the JP titles before the US ones just like what i did for Chrono Trigger on the PS and Ikagura for the DC... if the games are good enough then i'll get the JP version first then hopefully buy the US version later.

The Stafy series is the only one I've tried; the story is simultaneously explained in words and visuals, so it's very easy to play untranslated.

Over half of my games is in Japanese and I play them. >.< Of course I can read, speak and understand Japanese. If I didn't if wouldn't be that much fun I think. It's hard to enjoy games when you don't understand them.

Initially, I didn't play any games in Japanese. Then, I found out about fan-translated games, and began playing those. My favorite ended up being Super Robot Wars 3 on the SNES.That encouraged me to try out the other games in Japanese. In the past year, I finished SRW Alpha on the PSX with the help of FAQs, and played a number of other games, though I didn't finish them... yet. It helped me learn katakanas, which I was clueless about until then. I ended up playing and finishing SRW J on the GBA without the help of any FAQs.True, you do miss out on the storylines, but then again, if you've seen Full Metal Panic or Mazinkaiser (for example), then it's not too hard to figure out what's going on in SRW J during scenarios that involve those two series.
