I must have finished it at least two hundred times. What you have to do after you complete it several times, is to try your luck at doing non-emulated speed runs. That is seriously one of the best things to do on the NES. Seems like Super Mario Bros. 3 was MADE to be time-attacked. Its levels are designed so there's a not-so-complex way to complete every one of them extremely fast.I get a bit obsessive when it comes to Mario games XD

I never completed it. I managed to make it to World 8 by skipping through many. Could not get past the 3rd stage on it.

I had beaten it in one sitting with my cousin who knew all of the tricks like smashing through the mountain with the hammer bros.'s hammer. I could never have figured stuff like that out on my own

Jesus christ you people are noobs. I finished this game when I was 6. All the way through. No flutes. Although saving (SM All Stars, SNES). You can't call yourself a true Nintendo gamer unless you've finished this. It is like the greatest 2D platformer ever (Well Super Mario World and Yoshis Island are pretty cool too. But you get the picture).

Yeah; I get the picture... You're the kind of "true Nintendo gamer" that lets his nostalgia blind his judgment. Speaking as someone with common sense who grew up on this game, I can heartily say here are FAR better 2D platformers than Super Mario Brothers 3. Where? On Super Nintendo, on the Sega Genesis, on the GBA, and even on the NES itself. You should lose the I-Was-Here-Before-You mentality, because nobody cares how young you were and how much time you wasted going through every single World without a Warp Flute. I've only used a Game Genie to beat the game, and you're not about to challenge my fandom just because I didn't play the same way you did. There's no right or wrong way to beat a game, and you're not the standard everyone should be measured against. Get over it.

Actually, I question that much. Although it's the people who say SMB is the greatest platformer ever that you should look out for.

There's no right or wrong way to beat a game, and you're not the standard everyone should be measured against. Get over it.

There are ways that are much more impressive and suggest that you're actually good at the game, although that says nothing about "right" or "wrong".Also: I got bored one day and went all the way through, no Warp Whistles. World 7 is seriously harder than World 8.

You know I never really thought about it, but I've never completed it... ever. I think I've gotten as far as the lava place where all those cannons and stuff shoot at you. I think I've got some new motivation to play the game!

Yeah. The first time I failed miserably because I fell for Koopas pause trap. The second time around, I waited for the door to open itself.**** that pissed me off, lol.
