I sincerely doubt they make you noticably smarter, unless you play them consistantly for a long time... and in any case, playing something like the Sudoku on the same game, or the NYT Crosswords will probably make you smarter...

i think while you think it isnt making you smarter, it is subconsiously doing so and begin to memorize things and all that.

*sigh*They don't make you smarter, they just make you use your brain in ways you wouldn't normally, so your brain can use more pathways.Duh.

I guess they keep your mind more alert and not as lazy, but they don't significantly impact your "smartness".

I think that they are practicing you to answer the same question again n again. There is no the word "ideal" for the reality, you can't expect it to make you smarter. It only can enhance your reponse towards specific situation only.

Honestly, the research concerning the matter is quite undecided. I mean, I can imagine that calculating each day helps your brain a bit, but the other stuff ... hmm ... From those Brain Games, Brain Age seems to be the most serious one. For me at least logically the games make sense ... and might improve something.Actually, I am playing Brain Age not that much because I hope to improve my brain, but because it is fun. I love 'low to high', oh and not fogetting the excellent sudoku adaption.

my sister has brain academy and i've got brain age and this other more random seeming one called brain something. brain academy is just fun, that's why i play it. brain age has sudoku, enough said, and the other one is kind of not actually that fun, not gonna lie. all in all, i don't care if they make you smarter, i just think they're fun... the first two anyway.

they could initially, but i think we just end up cheating and the objective becomes to win, not to actually "exercise and stimulate our brains".. so as long as we keep their purpose in mind and don't play them TOO much, i think they help. i mean, how hard are the questions? i.e. brain age? those math questions?? it's just speed.. and i think that provides a good exercise for our brains, but we're not gonna get phDs by beating those games. so conclusion: good practice/good "stretching exercises for the brain," but don't really increase intelligence

I think these kinds of games are likely to work well for the audience that they are targeted at. That's about all I have to say ^__^;
