I just use my name. I name them Isaac.
Handy when playing Golden Sun then!
I like to pick a different one each time.. something badass. Don't know about anyone else but when it comes to naming the bad guy (for instance ??? in the Pokemon series) I always try and give him a name that will make me laugh the next time I bump into him.

I use the present name but if not have one (which are some out there) something random but I try to make it funny or so it can follow the storyline & make sense like pokemon the saying "Your name, caught ______""
"Darn, I caught a Marshtomp" or "Darn, I saved the game" -- Change Darn to a swear word and see what happens ![]()

It truly depends on the game for me. If i'm playing a pokemon game I'll usually use my name except in the first generation games, i'll use Ash/Gary's name.
When I'm playing a game like Skyrim, (although not a handheld game it comes to mind), I usually try to come up with a unique name for my character that reflects who they're supposed to be. ![]()

If female, my own name. If male, Seth (idk I just like that name).

I like coming up with unique names, like Daemoniica, Caerenya, and Kaerea. It's fun hearing others try to pronounce the names right. When I'm not coming up with confounding names, I name them either Mysterie or Miserie.
I'm not crazy, I'm Insane.
I'm not a freak, I'm Weird.
I'm not dumb, I'm Mental.
I'm not creepy, I'm Unnerving.
I'm locked inside my own mind....

I usually end up using the preset name, like Link for example. Or sometimes I end up stealing stuff from the Koholint shop and end up being named THIEF!!! Both work I guess.

I have a few names that I like to use (like the one I have here), but in the case of TLoZ I always go with Link

This depends on whose company I am in. If I'm alone and can't think of anything specifically fitting, I'll use the name Ryuzaki or Zephiel. Or, I will go so far as to search "list of interesting names" on yahoo and settle on something like "Xavien Raith."
But oftentimes I'm in the presence of a friend or sibling whose sense of humor I feel I can pique by entering names like "May Kadoody" or "Dixie Normous".

I use the names of my own characters and even customize them to match the names if the option is available. If it's only one, then I go with my own name

The easiest for me is to just choose the default name that the character should have. If that does not exist, then the random name generator is the go to or I either go with Ace or Zero, depending on the mood at that time.

I always name the charachter based on what kind of game it is, I usually try to name them what their name is supposed to be. So like in Zelda I'd name my guy Link. If there is no real name avaiable, I spend at least 30 minutes trying to think of a really cool name. ![]()

Usually I name them after myself and my friends. Sometimes I come up with whole new names. In Persona 3 and 4 I gave the Brotag a Japanese name. In P3P, FemC has a double-reference-combination name. In N1 SRPGs, sometimes I make my friends into generics, but I do also come up with reference names and stuff like that.
I also name myself after the MC in Super Robot Wars. Fat lot of good that does me; the games are in Japanese. But I am a dood in a robot! ...I'm sorry, I'm a genuinely-awful person.
