there are very little dragon type pokemon when it comes to only one attribute. not a combination eg:Dragonite - dragon and flying.

Probably to maintain some kind of mystique that could not be achieved if there were many of said type

Because Dragon is a mystic animal only exist in people's mind, they've never seen them. Therefore, there are not many Dragon pokemon: Dragonite, Rayquaza

They are very weak against ice pokemon but beside that, it dont have any other weaknesses. Maybe there aren't many ice pokemon to "control" dragon so there are not many dragon type pokemon ...If there are a dragon/steel pokemon, it'd be a strong one like Sableye, dont have any Weakness

Reasons for limited Dragon pokemon? Simply, they aren't Bugs or Flying type pokemon. Redundancy or not, it's true. Comparing Bugs to Dragons is to comparing something weak to something strong. Bugs have many weaknesses and Dragons have some of the least. The Dragon's actual stats and attacks can overcome the others too. Due to that, they probably added the Water or Flying additions which are mainly to prevent some sort of "super overpowered pokemon". Another example of limitations of Dragons are the long level ups. Dragonite or Salamence require a long and tedious leveling to prevent having incredibly strong pokemon at the very start or middle of your game.

Dragons are weak against ice and dragon type moves.Diaruga is steel/dragon and it's still weak againt ground type moves. One of the other reasons why there isn't that many pure dragon pokemon is the fact that most dragon pokemons have insane ATT stats and average SP ATT. If we want them to profit strong STABed moves, better give them a second type, especially when the only type against which a dragon type attack is super effective is... dragon.

Nope, Charizard is only dragon like, but not dragon type, it's Fire/Flying.

There aren't a lot of Dragon Pokemon is because they are strong and if they have a lot more Dragon Pokemon you'll have a hard time beating them. By the way Rayquazza, Salamence, Flygon OWNS!

maybe they try to have some mythology in the game, so the Dragons are a legend in the game to. Maybe they try to have a powerful and rare kind of moster in the game and choose the dragons

It is probably true that the dragons are alot more powerful. Notice how Dragonite takes until lvl 50 to evolve from dragonair. Tyranitar is another example.
