I've never heard of strange tales myself, but from wiki it appears that most of it does deal with superheros and most it was published decades ago.As for the PG13 content, that's why I was asking whether marvel had any good imprints, but I don't see anything that is even close to vertigo. And a lot of manga focus exclusively on romance, I'm not saying that I particularly like them, but they are more distinguished in that particular genre because of the quantity and quality of the material that's published. One of the things that I really do like about marvel would be the ultimate universe, the setting puts a lot more focus into how people deal with each other, like having Captain America experience culture shock after waking up many decades into the future, or seeing the Hulk letting out his repressed homosexual/homophobic rage. If there's more series along the lines of that, marvel would definitely improve, in my opinion at least.Nah, that's not really manga, it's drawn mostly by Ben Dunn apparently. I put it down after reading the first ten pages. If want a real manga/marvel crossover, read Wolverine: Snikt!, drawn and written by Tsutomu Nihei (one of my favorite manga artists by the way).

Actually, it was the original appearance of many modern day heroes, however it had a large variety in itself. And btw, if you haven't heard of/read the Civil War series, you should definitely pick it up. It's spectacular. And yes, the Ultimate Universe is very kewl. I like it a lot. I'm not bashing Manga, btw. I love manga. But I also happen to love Marvel. You should definitely read dark tower though. And I think I may pick up Wolverine: Snikt!, it sounds rather interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.

While I love a bunch of Marvel series, I haven't read them for a while, mainly due to the people sending issues to subscribers, and sending me junk I did not order. If I pick one, manga wins outright. There are far more manga series than the ones Marvel puts out, and many more plots, skilled artists, and villains in the mix. Marvel reuses old characters, and tries to reinvent the wheel. Their comics seem to have no end, and whenever one dies, another springs up in its place. I prefer manga because it can, and will, end. That, and manga is love~!

By far Marvel, best writers and artists and pencilers in the business today, their comics are just so deep too, the ultimate x-men, spiderman, and fantastic four to go along with 1602, awesome

I think you forgot the part where manga is a bunch of overused and contrived plots. "THIS IS A HAREM. GIRLS FALL FOR ONE BOY. ENSUE!" "THIS IS LAND. WE MUST FIGHT FOR IT. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!"If anything, manga ( and anime, for that matter ) has the LEAST amount of originality. If something does break the mold ( which rarely happens ), chances are it'll be emulated to the point where you can't recognize which started what. This can easily apply to any series. That said, I like Marvel for one reason: Warren Fricken' Ellis.

This is a stupid question. It's like asking "what's better, the whole of European comics or clichéd shôjo manga?" Of course, you'd say European comics. If the question was, "what's better, manga or American comics?" then I'd have to say both are equal. But as it is now, manga is better. Also, I'd like people who reply in this thread to actually know what they're talking about. There's lots of Marvel artists, of course, but most of them use a style that's more deformed than that of most manga-ka. Also, the architectural designs of most manga are much less cartoonish than those of Marvel comics - but there's exceptions, of course. I won't even get into the "HAREM" or "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT" clichés because, although these do exist, considering that the most respected manga have that kind of plot means that you know basically nothing about manga classics. The idea that "breaking the mold rarely happens" not only is false, but it's a stereotype that applies to Marvel comics as well. I'd say Marvel tends MUCH more towards being formulaic, although that's changed a lot in the last 20 years.

Mmm... Someone is pitting marvel against the mass manga companies of japan? Of course this would look very unfair for manga artists. But it's also the same thing since marvel's writers, inkist, artists and editors are always different like that of japan's manga. The difference with marvel and all of the manga productions is that marvel is like a unified company compared to a divided company of mangas. The best thing about marvel is that all of the artists and writers work together to follow the ever continuing story arc of the marvel universe unlike japan's manga which is always the same mangaka (author and artist) who continues their own universe. Another factor would be the coloring which is absent in almost every manga. But like I said, this debate is clearly one sided for marvel.

While mangas are pretty awesome, Marvel is just better. It's older, has better story arcs, and, in my opinion, better art.

Marvel was good until it started getting ridiculous about 7 years ago. Nowadays, it's manga all the way.

As I've stated before, and shall state henceforth, I am a fan of both Marvel comics and manga. I do say Marvel comics because I mean Marvel comics. I'm not a fan of DC, and don't follow Dark Horse. That said, my vote stands for Marvel. When people think of manga, they usually also think of anime, and the same is true for Marvel and the Marvel movies/cartoons. I'm gonna take two similar mangas and pit them against eachother for comparison. In the red corner, weighing in at thousands of fans, we have Naruto! And in the blue corner, sporting an equal number of fans, we have Dragon Ball Z. They both have mystical energies, Chakra and Ki respectively. They both have many spiritual references. Although DBZ does take place across a number of planets and Naruto in a number of villages, they do both have their respective "clans", Leaf, Rain and Mist to name a few from Naruto, and Namek, Sayajin and Android to name a few from DBZ. They both have nifty little hand motions to do their super powers. Both have a power that allows instant transmission. Both have a power that produces a large amount of energy in the palm of your hand. The similarities are quite numerous. Now let's look at two similar Marvel comics. I'm going to take...hold on, it's hard to think of two anywhere near as similar as the two I chose for the manga end...um...how about...Spiderman and Daredevil? Yeah, I'll take those two. They both have been gifted (or cursed) with superhuman powers that cause interferences with their everyday lives. Um...they both have villains to fight. Um...uh...that's pretty much it. Daredevil's love get's killed, Spiderman ends up with MJ. Daredevil's blind. Spiderman...isn't. Daredevil's a lawyer. Spiderman's a photographer. I don't know, there aren't really many similarities. Maybe I chose the wrong two, hold on...how about...Punisher and Blade? Let's try those two. Punisher has no superhuman powers at all, just really good marksmanship, and is bent toward vengance. Blade is half vampire which gives him the ability to walk in daylight, and he hunts vampires. Although in the original comics he was a human, had a wife, but still hunted vampires. Um...they both wear cool leather trench coats? Again, not much in common. I'm not going to do another one. I'm pretty sure I proved my point.Although I will do another manga one. Let's take...oh...I don't know...how about Yu-Gi-Oh and Duel Masters? Need I go on? What about Pokemon and Digimon? While Digimon was superior in plot and character development, they did have a lot in common. You know what, let's throw Zatchbell with Yugi and Duel Masters, and throw Monster Rancher in with Pokemon and Digimon. Come on people, seriously. Need I go on?

dear Black 13,I do believe that the reason I didn't compare a Marvel superhero to a DC superhero was in my previous post, however the reason is that this forum is comparing Marvel as a company to manga as a whole. Now if I were to choose two from opposing companies, I'd probably take Batman and Iron Man. Both very rich with no superhuman powers to speak of. One makes a cybernetic super suit, the other builds gadgets and vehicles to fight crime. Iron Man was originally crippled, I don't know if he is any more. Batman's parents were ruthlessly murdered. Batman has a few sidekicks (Nightwing, Batgirl, and of course Robin). They did both belong to their own alliances of superheroes, Batman belonging to the Justice League and Iron Man belonging to the Avengers. Apart from that, there really isn't much in common. That's two things. Two things the two of them have in common. Well, three if you count the whole "rich" thing. You suggested Moon Knight and Batman, which really only have being rich in common. Moon Knight was the embodiment of an Egyptian god. He did have a sidekick temporarily in the third season, but by that time his particular story was so intertwined with the rest of the Marvel Universe that it wouldn't be easy to compare the two of them.
