The system is interesting to say the least. You can basically customize your character however you see fit. I for one like all my characters to know at least lvl 1 white magic so they can all cure each other in an emergency. This system allows full customization you can make all mages, all swordmen, however you like, I believe though that some characters will be better suited for some actions than others but I still like the idea though. however what I don't like is that you seem to be able to die easier in this game than in the others in the past. In the first couple of areas I died twice so far and I was shocked that this happened as normally I will be wiped out for the first time at a hard boss midways but this was a normal enemie. Given some of the enemies are really strong and mixed in with the normal ones (word of advice don't F%$# with the werewolves at level 3!) and you kinda have to know when to run like heck. Most times if the enemie kills me in one hit I know it is one of the ubers and I run like hell. overall I like the story but i am up in the air about the new battle system. I guess it will have to grow on me, either that or I start heckling square till they change it back.

Honestly I think the battle system isn't too different from KOTOR. If anything its much improved by the fact that you can issue better orders to your allies than in KOTOR when they'd sort of do whatever they wanted in many instances. That's why I don't understand why the battle system has received so much flak, when KOTOR came out its battle system was praised on any number of levels, FFXII is just the next natural progression.

I myself am a devot Final Fantasy fan. I have played and beaten every FF out there. The battle system has grown on me and I feel that eventho' others have tried no one has successfully duplicated it. I love getting excited during tough boss fights and memorizing Nobuo Uematsu's incredible music. The new FF XII game worried me a bit... It didn't have the system that saved the company so many years ago or the now legendary composer Uematsu-san behind it... When I played the game I was surprised by the graphics and amazed by the story. The battle system has grown on me a bit but I think in it's bid for functionality and efficiency it lost a lot in the interactive experience... All the player really controls is their character's movements and the rest is taken care of by the Gambit system and the commands players program in before hand... I love Final Fantasy and XII is a good game but is it FF material? And 'Cloud The Assassin' as pertains to your comment, if you loved a certaint book series and bought all the books in it save the last then realized the last one was written by a completely different author would you be reluctant to buy it? You'd probably ask yourself if the new author respected the other books or if the book was worth your hard earned money. Just somethin' to think about...End Rant...

Sadly this doesn't feel too different from FFXI, in which case it'd be a better idea to play that or Phantasy Star Universe. Not to say it's a bad game - heck, I'm enjoying it - just that the Gambit system makes grinding SOOOO much easier.

The people who don't like FF12 appears to be not familiar with the previous incarnation. They don't realize that FF11 is very similar to FF12. I don't know if this is a good thing, but I'm very interested in playing this game. Although I probably won't get it until this weekend.

Maybe, but we've still got a long way to go before we can say that, other characters might become important as story advances, like Balthieer, you need his airship to continue to the sky city

I've been playing for awhlie now and although I don't think the game will be a HUGE hit I do think it will be enough to appeal to any gamer who enjoys FF. I do have to say I really don't like the license board because everyone has the exact same thing except for quickenings and summongs...The marks were a somewhat cool idea and tying in characters from FFTA was kind of cool. I just think its an average game.EDIT : Forgot, THE VOICE ACTING IS SOOO TERRIBLE, even compared to to other FF's. Vaan sounds like his voice is muffled the whooooole game.

Graphically, it's definitely impressive. Can't say much about the rest though, although I like the character designs. At least they're doing something different than ATB; that system is just so overused. I hope the story is better than the some of the newer FF's though...(coughffeightcough)

I'm very satisfied with the game so far. I think it's very well done in terms of graphics. The battle system is fun, much more interactive than before, and is worth the time I put into training and what not. Storyline is fun, and I must disagree with the last few users; the experience system is much more realistic. License board was taken a step further --- HOW REALISTIC IS IT THAT YOU'D HAVE Fira after marking it on a friggin' chess board. Pfft.

I'm into the 30s in my main characters. Best advice I can give to noobs, set a party member to have a steal gambit. Little to no $$ for defeating enemies. It all comes from trading drops and steals, so start EARLY!

What is this monster that SquareEnix has turned the FF series into? I mean with games like christal chronicles and cellphone games its more about money now than quality or decent games

i agree completely! Square is just throwing crap for games out, to just earn small profits here and there! honestly, if thats what they are in fact doing, then all that money made from them, should all go into one super game, the omega of Final Fantasy! if it takes 3 years to make, and millions of dollars to finish, then so be it. If square is looking to end the final fantasy series, then i believe they should do it with a wicked loud bang!

Totally! The bang final fantasy to end the series would sell MAJORLY, although, i'm a fan of FF myself :P I happen to think the graphics rule >.>

come on if you ever thought SE was making a game for you and not to make a dollar you were sadly mistaken. I am about 29 hours into the game and TBH its the best FF I have played since VII. I play FFXI but I dont count it as a game in the FF series really since its a MMO.
