I admit that VII was good but it wasn't the best. In fact, I loved most of the FFs that ever came out so I can't say which one I prefered more. Now let's put that aside. FFXII is so addicting and fun. The license board is great. I get the feeling that I can shape my character in any way I want. There's like no restrictions. I can even have the main character become a black mage if I wanted.

FF12 is rather a disappointmentI thought this because it feels like im playing a single player MMOanyone who plays MMORPGs can understand sorta how I feel about itvoicing/story wasn't so fantastic eitherthey always been creative with the series, if one fails for the fan, just gotta see what else they will bring up later on!

I would like to make some comments;"It's not all about the story anymore."I'm sorry, what? The reason Final Fantasy was so successful before was because they brought forth interesting stories. To say that it's more about graphics now is completely wrong. The fan-base for Final Fantasy has been lowering tremendously, as well, the player-base has been getting more of the quote "graphic whores," rather than the RPG enthusiasts, which made the game successful in the first place. The people have a right to be displeased in the direction that the game has taken -- they feel betrayed by Square Enix, and quite frankly, I have to agree with them. Final Fantasy X was a great game; not because of the graphics, though they were stunning, but because of the story that it brought out. The same thing that Final Fantasy VII and VIII messed up on; both were horrible, and nearly made me vomit on numerous occasions. I couldn't even finish Final Fantasy VIII myself, it was so bad!"You don't know how long it takes to make a game, nor how much it costs."It takes a couple of years to make a video game, and runs about a few million dollars ( it isn't as high as what they thought it was -- they wouldn't spend fifty million dollars on every game; lest they not make any money ), with twenty-five to a hundred plus people working on the game. It's not a joke in time or money; however, to produce games that are a complete joke, while pushing them over the Final Fantasy title, is disgusting. That's what came with Final Fantasy VIII, X-2, and XI. And now, continuing the track of MMORPG based combat systems; sad and pathetic are only a few of the words that I can use to describe how I feel about that, personally."The FF fan-boy who just want play FF and wants everybody else to shut the hell up."I think I fall under that category the most. XDBut at times, I just feel that they've made many mistakes, which have attempted to pull the games down on a large scale. I'm serious, too. It falls into the RPG category, which means that the game is suppose to be more derived from the story than anything else. An MMORPG doesn't allow the story aspect to fully develop, because of the freedom and PKers that flock to those games; there is very little to drive stories, rather than just to have everyone powergame. And many of the previous games up until this point ( VII and VIII mostly ) have had poorly constructed stories, which were incredibly hard to follow. For as many fans that were drawn to them; I won't say what I think about them, to be nice. =)-----Okay, enough ranting from me. I have yet to play the game, and I will admit that I'm not going into it expecting much, but I will play it as soon as I possibly can. =(

my fried hates it to. because the origianl was great and they changed it to an adventure RPG style. which is dumb. but i like it. they changed to MMO style. but not being able to control all my characters at once kinda bothers the heck out of me.

Balthier's James Bond-esque voice is hot. ;D Fran is as cool as ever still, but I really do wish her voice was a little deeper like in the JPN version of the game.

FFXII is really far from disappointment. The thing that I think people hate about it is that it's a new battle system, and they want their overused ATB. S-E used a system that works, and added into the mix Gambits and Licenses that allow you to completely customize how your characters will act and what kind of abilities they'll be able to use. The way I see it, the game can have a lot of replay value because you have a lot of freedom this time around as far as jobs go. The story's pretty good, a bit of cliches so far, but what FF doesn't have them? The settings, well, not what you'd normally see in a FF game, but it works for me. I'm not too crazy about settings as far as games go, moreso the gameplay than anything else will catch my attention. Voice-overs aren't too bad, they seem to fit their expressions and attitudes. Graphics are really neat, there's quite a bit of a change from FFX(the last true FF I played), and it's not hard to spot either. Personally, I'd give this game a 9.5/10, but most of the haters  will obviously disagree.

I think the game is amazing, a nice fast paced battle system, the game has a ffxi feel where your using your tanks to point mobs away from healers (breathes and other status stuff) and kiting to get the aoe to only land on yourself. The story has a nice touch, isn't a cheesy love story. A cool story about war between empires.

The battle system is absolutely great. The gambit system lets you do so much. Your choice of how to play the game is limitless. Its VERY intuitive and you quickly pick up on it. Seriously you can say screw the gambit system all together and smash out orders at your leisure or you can go in full automatic mode. Think of it as a macro list that you have to expand upon with liscense and purchasing gambit lines from shops. The boss fights are simply amazing. And hard as hell but I love it! You cant rely on gambits so much, you can use a few but unless u de-activate some you can end up wasting mp/pots/lose to bad choicesMy favorite part of this game has to be the hunts. You go to a pub, and you can pick up hunts off a bulletin board. Basically a petitioner will ask you to go to the wild and hunt something down. (One of the last ones is a King Behemoth hunt @.@)

I thought the same until I got lv 2 quickens. Now all I do is quicken the hell out of every boss and hope luck and quick fingers will do the rest.

I find that the new battle system is more enjoyable than the old one. It saves more time and is not as annoying as having a freaking Glass shatter, Whirlwind, etc. (you name it) scene and going into a battlefield. It's a lot more strategic with a system like this. For example, turtle mark hunting. Whenever they follow one character, switch to that character and run around while the others bash the turtle. I took down a high level turtle(took 15 mins) just like that.

I believe FFXII to be excellent myself. For one thing, due to free roaming(I went to Westersand 6 times and got wiped each time in the first hour) and the ADB system I actually have to pay attention to what is going on instead of just pressing attack/walking around repeatedly, and I can't run away from a battle, then leave the game there for an hour(due to monster persuit). Also who has only 4-6 monsters attacking you at once? I end up with 10+ monsters on me alot of the time even unintentionally so. The boss dificulty has also significantly increased, even with some of the higher end weapons (koetsu, gladius, etc), some bosses are still medium-hard to beat without investing in a few level/loot runs. The new LP system makes it feel like your characters are truly customizable, unlike the sphere grid was a bit more linear. Levels actually require effort to gain now as well, same thing with cash.I enjoy using Gambits as well, because they help me when I'm distracted, or am just doing loot runs. I don't use them most of the time, or manually override them due to the waste of mp/items or the status of monsters. The graphics are great, voice dubbing is good as well. I would complain about the music being of worse quality, but the music fits the environment fairly well so I'm statsified.I'd give it a 9.7/10 myself.

Here are my gripes with the game (just got second storyline esper):Gambit system is poorly designed. There are so many useless gambits, but no gambit to tell my thief to steal from a target when she is successful, and I can't find a proper gambit for the Cura spell.Game doesn't tell you what stats affect a weapon's attack power. Related, shops only tell you how armor affects one stat, when many armors affect strength and speed.Random treasures for all treasure chests is a terrible idea. Some random treasures are good (a good diversion for when you're chaining monsters or filling the bestiary), but I really wish there were one-time treasure chests where you were guaranteed a certain item, just like in the previous FF's. Story is really well translated, but it there isn't much of it, and it takes a backseat to the action. Also, a lot of the scenes have cool character interactions, but then you realize the plot didn't go anywhere.Other than all that, this is a wonderful game. I need to play DQVIII some more after this to figure out which is my favorite PS2 game.

One tip when you play this game. Read about the Zodiac Spear. There are a few chests which you should not open, opening will make the Zodiac spear disappear.
