I've had one explode, that was Sims 1: Superstars. Back in England for a time EA was using really dodgy CDs for some of its products, I remember having similar issues with BF1942 cracking premately.

I once had a music CD that exploded inside the drive and it was jammed so it wouldn't open either. I think when the people took it out it had shattered into about 20 - 30 pieces.... a lot of bits, no idea what caused it, since the CD was new(ish)

I have always feared my CDs would shatter one day due to wear and tear, but luckily it hasn't happened yet. My old computer's games have a fair amount of scratches on them, and it hasn't killed/damaged anyone/anything yet. My Diablo 2 LoD disc has quite a lot of scratches on it, and I'm nervous its gonna explode while I'm playing.

My favorite game for a while was Warcraft III TFT, and I played for LONG periods of time. Eventually, small scratches started appearing in the disk, but it still ran fine. Those scratches started to get bigger and bigger, yet it would still work. Eventually, one day I started playing, any put my beat-up copy of TFT into the drive and loaded it up, but then there was this odd sound of something jamming coming from the comp. I opened up the drive, and found my game had shattered into about 10-12 pieces.I spent a good hour fishing the pieces out that had lodged themselves into the back and sides of the drive. What I think happened was that the scratches finally broke through the other side, making hairline cracks in the disc, and the next time I put it in, the high speed of the drive spinning the disc caused the disc to break and fly apart, of balancing it and causing mor damage to the disc, causing more pieces to break apart.Has this every happened to you? If so, what CD?

Use No-CD Cracks and burn backup copies!

well, I guess you should take better care of your CD like.. put it back in the disk case and if you're gona leave it, keep it upside downit would also be good to have those paper plastic covers around so atleast if you lose the case... (that would suck... always keep a back up copy of your CD KEY or if you have it installed, use shadowfrench)

well good that these days there are no cd cracks so you can play the game without the cd.it's much better that way cause the game boots up faster because it doesn't have to read from the disc anymore.

Nope. This reminds me of my friend, he got a free mini-CD from something and we tried to destroy it. Fun.

Personally I never encountered this, but one of my classmates told me of such a story. Not exactly "explosion", but he said he put in the CD, for a while the drive didn't read a thing. When he ejected the tray to see what was wrong... small pieces of the shattered CD was falling out of the tray. X_X The drive itself was not damaged (apparently).

When I was smaller I used think that burning cds involved a toaster, but I've never heard of exploding cds.

My original Diablo I CD sorta exploded.. more of a smash really, but it was still awesome to watch... until i realized it was Diablo. It was really trashed anyway (it spent a few years attached to the motor of a fan, hidden in the back of my room.) but since it still worked i was kinda pissed. on a semi-related note, my Lands of Lore CD suffered the same treatment, so it might happen again soon..
