First, I ask people to keep this sort of civil. I know that when there are debates about subjects with people that feel their side is correct or "better" than another side, they get hotheaded when someone else questions it. I ask that no one attacks or anything like that in this thread -- I have no problem asking someone to lock or delete this thread, even if it comes as a warning against myself. >.>Now, I pose the question; when choosing a RPG, do you look into the storyline for the game or wind up picking it because of the graphics that you see?I've been up on the fence on this lately. Sometimes, I get a game based on the graphics of it and other times I get one based on the story that it gives. I tend to like RPGs based more on their story telling ability, but lately, it seems that RPGs are trying to get to be more graphic based. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about what would make a better RPG.

u need both becuz if the graphics r good but the story suks well then theres basically no point of playing and if the story is good and the graphics suk "OSSSS" then it is alright but its not going to be a crowd favorite (except for ff7 that game is the best no matter wat, and i heard there is going to be a remake of it so woooooohooooooo) so the best game is a mixture of both

A mixture, I would say, with an emphasis on story. FFVII was so much better than, say, IX, in terms of story, to such an extent that I don't mind the graphics. Of course, if I had to look at those boxes for long enough, I might change my mind ~)

mixture of both because you wouldn't play a game with an awesome storyline if the graphics scare you away first

The story moves you and makes everything fit together. Graphics are great but if the story sucks the motavation to play is gone. My example is ff7. The graphics are horrible now, but I still love it every time i play.

graphics/story are nice but gameplay is what keeps me playing. I mean I would take an average graphic/story game w/ awesome gameplay anyday.

lets move away from final fantasy since the story is always awesome there....how about different rpgs(or this will turn into a debate about which final fantasy story is better) imo the story is better because without it you'd basically be stuck with a dragonball game which suck alot. sure graphics are nice...but i think a pleasing story is better than eyecandy any time when it comes to rpgs

I think a mixture is important because I know if I'm playing a game with sorry graphics, it's really hard for me to get into it - and vice versa when it comes to the story. I could probably play a game with better graphics and a sorry story longer than I could a game with sorry graphics...

I think both graphics and story are needed to make a great rpg, though for me the story is far more important... if the game has ok graphics and the story is really good I think it's worth playing it. =)

If you think about the old school games people used to play, like Final Fantasy II (SNES) and III, they were more story driven than graphics driven. Even games with real good graphics might end up leaving a bad taste in the player's mouth simply because it was executed poorly. Definitely story! Take FF V for example. Great game even though the graphics are outdated.

The story is the most important part. Without a good story line, the games not worth playing.

I picked other, because I prefer gameplay over the story and the graphics IMHO.

story because what good are graphics if you get bored of it in the first three hours of playing it and you can play an RPG with bad graphics as log as you can see what you are doing

I will go with story if you look at games like ff1 and 2 they are story driven. So i think story is the most important thing. But then if you look at games like dragon quest 8 then its a mixture of both the graphics are amazing and the story is just simple.

its all about the story. story is what makes an rpg an rpg. i mean even if the graphics suck the story makes the game fun. but switch that and the graphics dont make the game fun.
