I think Mixture, but seriously, if the story takes up like half the game, it's not a game anymore, more like an interactive movie, so if i had to choose one, it'd be graphics.

Both are important. So is gameplay. Great graphics and a great story but terrible gameplay is a huge turn off.

Story should never take backseat to graphics. Ever.

Graphics and story are only parts of what make up a game though. If the battle system or the gameplay mechanics suck ass its a turn off too. Especially if I'm going to invest alot of time into it.

The graphics are pretty importantBut the story line is even more important i think, so i'd say it's a mix but story outshadows graphics. I'm thinking on the same lines as most SNES/PS1 games though hah

Well, if you think about RPGs, the story plays an important part, because it's normally the thing that glues you to the game. But also, the graphics (especially the box art when you are buying) motivate you to play a game you haven't seen before.Regarding to other games, I think I'm not the only one who gets mysteriously angry when someone says 'Look, this game's graphics suck, so the game itself must suck too.'

Really? I thought the graphics were actually pretty ahead of their time back then :) of course if you're comparing FF7 to more recent games, then that's just silly.I can really appreciate a pretty game, storyline really doesn't matter to me that well so long as the game plays nicely as well.

To be a good game i think there has to be a mixture of both. but if i had to pick one or the other i would say story because without a good story games a boring.

An RPG has got to be good all-around to be fun, IMO. Good graphics alone don't make a good game. Although a game with a truly good story will pull you in enough to make you want to keep playing, the gameplay itself must also be good too. For me though, I'd take great gameplay and a captivating story over good graphics.

While both are equally important, consumer-wise and commercial-wise, I think story remains as the core component of RPG's.However, I think other genres can get away with this, as other genres intend to aim for the gaming audience as a whole.

Neither. It's all about the characters, setting, and gameplay. If the characters aren't interesting, there's no point in caring about them, so why play?If the setting isn't interesting, then the game is just one big, unmemorable blur, so why play?If the gameplay is slow, tedious, clunky, and just not fun, why play?

The story is what makes the game what it is, sure good graphic help but if it doesn't have a story that makes sense behind it the game is just plain boring

A story is what an RPG is. Without a story, an RPG is nothing. A good story will make or break an RPG despite all of its other accomplishments of failures.

Without a story an RPG is just a grind. Whether it looks beautiful or not.. there won't be a good reason to level. Great stories > Graphics. The older Final Fantasies are a testament to that.

Story all the way. Graphics all they do is add prettyness to the game, I like a deep story, with deep character development, and all that.

I'd say the stories are more important with the graphics being a bonus.I normally choose my games according to its graphics but i've played some RPGs with sucky graphics that really got me hooked.I had more fun playing those GBA games than i did playing on a PS2.
